Shelter in the Rain

"Ah, it looks like we'll be stuck here for a while, Akashi-kun."

The captain merely hummed in response, choosing to lean against Kuroko as he listened to the raindrops pattering on the metal awning of the bus stop. "Akashi-kun… Please don't fall asleep…" Kuroko muttered though he made no attempt to push Akashi away. Practice had ended later than usual and the downpour only began just as they left the school grounds, forcing them to seek shelter at a bus stop nearby. Cerulean hues were fixated at the close-up sight of Akashi's closed eyes, slightly parted lips and the dripping wet hair and he wondered who else had seen such a vulnerable side of his captain.

Kuroko's hand slowly reached out, fingertips barely brushing against the smooth skin of Akashi's cheek like it were a fragile work of art. This was not the first time his captain had let his guard down around him when they were alone and that made his heart swell just a little with pride to know that Akashi was comfortable with him.

"Is there something on my face?" Taken by surprise, Kuroko immediately withdrew his hand, his mind desperately working up an excuse. "I- Ahh no, I just- I mean-" Before the phantom player could even form a coherent sentence, a slender finger was pressed against his lips, effectively silencing him.

"Hush now." Akashi quietly said with a knowing smile. "Look, the rain is dying down." Sure enough, the sky was clearing up and the rain had reduced to only a slight drizzle. A small part of Kuroko was glad that the rain stopped but he was mostly disappointed that his time alone with Akashi was about to end. Feeling the weight lift from his shoulders, Kuroko watched as Akashi stood up to stretch his limbs before turning to him with an outstretched hand. "Shall we go? It's going to be dark soon." Kuroko stared at the appendage, wondering for a brief moment what he should do despite how obvious it was. Well, this is a first. Kuroko thought as he finally placed his own hand in Akashi's.

What he did not expect was to feel cold fingers intertwining with his. To Kuroko, holding hands like that should be for lovers, not for normal friends – that is, if Akashi ever considered Kuroko to be a friend. Pushing such thoughts aside, Kuroko decided to relish in the moment of the physical contact he had with Akashi.

Sparing occasional glances at his captain, Kuroko had always wondered if Akashi felt the same way towards him as he did but he could never bring himself to voice it out. That was okay, he didn't mind. Kuroko was fine with the way things were between them now and he wouldn't trade it for the world.

Crossposted from Tumblr! I wrote this like, three months ago for the OTP Battle and I didn't even consider posting it here till today lmao. Unfortunately, anything recent work from me is going to be short, really short, much shorter than Nishinoya because I don't have the time to do long multi-chapters and also cuz wow I've been hella lazy.

Looking at this again... Wow this is seriously short. Dang, and it looked pretty reasonable on Tumblr.

Thanks for reading~
