6. Broken

"Oh, no…" Roxas mumbled, on the verge of tears. "Oh no, oh no, oh no…"

Picking up the carcass, he carried it to the edge of the tree and laid it beside a jutting trunk. Hopefully the next person that saw it thought it feel out of the tree and nobody would know and -

"Roxas?"

He whirled around to see Axel watching his curiously. The blonde bit his lip, standing defensively in front of the tiny yellow corpse, not wanting to admit to his mistake.

"Roxas? What's wrong, buddy?" the redhead stepped forward, noticing how nervous and upset his best friend was getting. Roxas hated it when he got empathetic, especially after what he'd just done. He despised himself now. Hated hated hated his own guts. Peering over his small shoulder, Axel's eyes widened just the slightest. Roxas let his tears fall. "Did you - "

He clasped onto Axel's waist, sobbing into his trench coat. "I didn't mean to! There was a Heartless and I swung and it was right there and - "

"Shh…" Axel hummed, taking the blonde's face in his hands and brushed his tears away with his thumbs. "It was an accident. I understand."

Roxas sniffed. "R-really?"

He smiled, sentimental. "Of course. Anyone would. In fact, so you won't feel bad…"

With a flash of flames, Axel was brandishing his chakrams, scanning the treetops. Leaping up he slashed at a branch and there was a gentle thump behind Roxas. He gasped, whipping around. Next to his dead canary was a torn and deceased robin lying in a growing pool of blood. Roxas turn back around.

"Why would you do that?" he asked the other Nobody angrily. Frustrated tears began spilling again.

Axel showed his infamous crooked smile. "I wanted to be a killer with you, Roxy." He took his hand and turned him back around. "You know what this is now?"

Roxas thought for a moment. "A permanent reminder that I'm a murderer…"

Axel chuckled. "No. It's an omen." He planted a kiss on the boy's tow head. "That one Is me, and the other one is you."

"So… we're going to die together?"

He kissed his hair again. "Exactly."
