A/N Oh my. So I noticed that I have this weird habit where I upload two stories in each section that I... work in? Uh. So here's my second Death Note story! (Go read my other one!)
Disclaimer: -whistles- I don't ownnnnnn. But I DO own this laptop with the 'm' that only works half the time. BEAT THAT!
Light's not a cheater.
He doesn't really need to be. He always wins anyway with whatever rules that have been laid down. Board games, sporting games, girls, popularity- it's all his whenever he wants it.
Now he's playing the biggest game the world has ever seen- and the prize is humanity.
It's a tall order and he certainly won't lose.
His opponent sits across the table and sips tea- black hair, black eyes, a travelling freak show without the virtue of color. The soothing beige walls of the coffeehouse become concrete gray while the soft lighting becomes harshly fluorescent as L turns the friendly meeting between Ryuzaki and Light into an interrogation.
How does your mind work, Kira?
Sometimes Light wishes L were on his side. Then humanity's safety would be assured and he wouldn't have to kill the most…capable person he's ever met. L would be a good ally (better than Misa, at least- she's ruthless but she's not cold and that's what it takes to be Kira).
Light isn't very good at sharing things, though, so maybe it's better that they're opponents. Besides, he's having all sorts of fun dancing around L and still being close enough to see the irritation flicker across his usually oh-so placid face. It's terribly fulfilling and maybe it's partly revenge for that little stunt at To-Oh's welcoming ceremony and maybe it's partly because he likes having the world's greatest detective's attention on only him. Only Light knows and he's certainly not going to tell anyone.
You'll never know, L.
So, when he's writing down criminals names in the notebook, manipulating Shinigami and humans and the world and the universe, wishing for one name with all of his heart (he really does have one; it's very annoying because gods aren't suppose to have hearts so sometimes he pretends like he doesn't), he isn't breaking any rules.
Ryuzaki smiles at him and piles sugar into his tea with an almost charming carelessness. L's eyes glitter with secrets that he shouldn't know and tricks that are still being planned. Light smiles back and pretends like this odd, crooked man-child is the strangest, most fascinating thing he's ever come across. (He's not. There's this notebook Light has and it's even more interesting).
It's appropriate that L is colorless- black and white and a blue that doesn't count since it's so faded it's almost white, too- because color means life and if he has none it means he's a dead man.
No, Light's never cheated in his life. He just plays by a different set of rules.
A/N I really like Light. He's like a psychologists dream subject because there's absolutely nothing wrong with him. Honestly, I think that becoming Kira was a less of a sign of his inner evil or megalomania and more of a sign of his inner innocence. I mean, only children see the world in such a black and white way and that's because they think that good people are all good and bad people are all bad. Ya feel me?
Review! :)
