A Day They'll Never Forget

I read that that the season 9 premiere (if there is one) will have a significant time jump. A brief possible explanation for Lanie and Beckett's absences. *GRAB THE TISSUES*

This day at the precinct felt different than any other day. Everyone knew what days it was. Ryan, Esposito and other officers stood watching the tv mounted on the wall. "And we are back with Richard Castle." The nicely dressed woman on the tv said " I understand today is a somber day for you and your family"

"Yes it is. Today marks 5 years since my wife died." He said.

"For those who might not remember would you please remind them"

"Sure. She was driving back from dinner with her longtime friend Lanie. She was driving through a green light at an intersection when they were blindsided by an SUV who ran a red light. Lanie, her passenger, died instantly. Kate, my wife, died later on at the hospital"

"Did they find out why the SUV ran the light?" the woman asked.

"Yes. Driving the SUV was a 16-year-old girl who had taken her parents car to supposedly stay over a friend's house. She and her friends really went to a party. And yes the driver was drunk." He said solemnly. "A day none of us will ever forget."
