Mintkit remembered laughing with Twigkit as they teased Featherpaw. He remembered being Twigkit's deputy in the Clan game they were playing.

Twigkit pounced on Maplekit. "Take that, you mangy rogue!"

"Ahh!" Maplekit squealed as she rolled under Mintkit's gray, fluffy belly.

The two kits rolled into Tidalflower, who warm-heartedly rolled her eyes.

"Get off!" she playfully mewed, gently batting Mintkit and Maplekit off with her white paws.

"Oh no!" Twigkit yelped. "It's an angry badger!" Twigkit stalked over to Tidalflower's patchy, black and white tail and pounced.

"We have to team up with the rogues!" Mintkit yowled. Mintkit and Maplekit charged into Tidalflower.

"It's another badger!" Maplekit's brother, Timberkit yowled. He batted his dark paws against Mossheart's tabby tail.

"Help me!" Twigkit wailed as Tidalflower gently picked him up by the scruff.

"Let go of my brother!" Mintkit hissed as he rammed into his mother's side.

Now, Mintkit was looking up at the muddied body of his dead brother. Twigkit was dead.

"Ma!" Mintkit wailed as Blueblossom dropped Twigkit's body. "Da!"

Tidalflower's jaws dropped as she ran up to her son's dead body and she let out a silent wail.

Mintkit felt his father's black tail wrap around his shoulder. "It's alright," Owlsight mewed.

Mintkit gazed up at his father's pale yellow eyes. "What happened to him?"

Owlsight sighed. "He died under a mudslide by the river." Owlsight shook his head, his eyes closed. "He's with StarClan, now."

"It's not fair!" Mintkit wailed with anguish. His pale green eyes watered as he cried.

Owlsight nuzzled Mintkit's head. "Things would be okay, I promise."

Nothing was okay. That day, was three moons ago. Mintkit, now Mintpaw, was struggling under the leadership of Featherstar, a brutal leader. He wanted to leave, but how could he leave Tidalflower and Owlsight?

Mintpaw knew that his parents were sad and miserable. They would never leave Twigkit's grave! He should be an apprentice, too!

Mintpaw was surprised when Featherstar brought Jag and Moon in to join FeatherClan as his leader had a tendency to chase away Outsiders. Mintpaw avoided contact for the most part.

At night, Mintpaw would gaze up at the stars remembering another happy night when he was a kit.

"Look, look!" Mintkit squeaked. "It's those sparkly things again!" Mintkit had swiped his paws towards the night sky.

Twigkit bounced over to Mintkit. "Ma!" he squeaked, turning to look at her. "What are those twinkly pieces?"

Tidalflower smiled. "Those are our warrior ancestors of StarClan," she mewed, half yawning. "Every Clan cat who has died resides up in the stars of Silverpelt."

"Wow," Mintkit yawned. "So pretty!" Mintkit felt so sleepy at that point.

"What's it like up there?" Twigkit asked dreamily. Twigkit's green eyes sparkled with reflected starlight.

Tidalflower yawned. "It's peaceful of there," she began. "It's always Green-Leaf and prey is plentiful." Tidalflower wrapped her tail around Twigkit and Mintkit.

"Could we ever go there?" Twigkit yawned.

Tidalflower shook her head. "Not for a long time, I hope."

Mintpaw felt the tears sliding down his cheeks when he heard pawsteps behind him. Jag, now Jaggedpaw, quietly sat next to him. "Go away," Mintpaw hissed defensively.

Jaggedpaw shook her black and white tabby head. "I can clearly see something is wrong," she replied. "What happened?"

"Twigkit happened," Mintpaw sighed. "He was stupid enough to leave camp and died under a mudslide!"

Jaggedpaw gazed into Mintpaw's pale green eyes. "Twigkit may be dead," she began, with the flick of her tail. "But you are still here. I think Twigkit would want you to live a good life."

Mintpaw blinked. "You think so?"

Jaggedpaw nodded. "Of course!" She nuzzled Mintpaw's cheek. "He loved you as a brother!"

Mintpaw frowned. "You never knew him, though."

Jaggedpaw nodded. "I know that," she replied. "But most littermates are close."

Mintpaw smiled. "Thank you, Jaggedpaw."

Jaggedpaw nodded. "If you ever feel down, you can talk to me."

Mintnose was never happier to be Jaggedmoon's mate. Now, they were looking down at their newborn kits, Willowkit and Sprucekit.

Mintnose nuzzled Jaggedmoon's forehead. "I love you and our kits," he purred.

Jaggedmoon returned Mintnose's smile with another. "I love you too," she purred.
