A/N: A fluffy thing I wrote 5ever ago on my tumblr blog askanakin, yay. Prompt was from the fabulous obiwankenobiwan for basically just a positive interaction between these two dorks.
"What are they?"
Obi-Wan glanced over at Anakin quizzically.
"I mean, their names."
"There are far too many of them for me to tell you their names. I don't know them all, anyway." After a brief pause in which he turned his eyes skyward again, Obi-Wan added, "I expect there are some that haven't even been named yet."
Anakin's lips slowly parted in awe, his eyes widening to take in the vastness of the cosmic vista spread out above him. From this remote, seldom-used landing platform of the Jedi Temple, there was relatively little traffic to impede the view of the stars.
"I'll name them," he declared after a brief silence. "I'll name all the ones no one's ever been to." Raising an arm to indicate one particular scintillating point of light with his index finger, he went on, "And that's yours. When I rule the galaxy, I'm gonna call that system… Kenobia. You'll live there." He slid his eyes over to his master, his face breaking into a mischievous grin. "'Cause by the time I'm growed up you'll be too old and weak to be a Jedi anymore."
"Grown, Anakin. And you will be old too before you rule the galaxy, my young and overly ambitious Padawan."
Anakin could see Obi-Wan only dimly in the intermittent light from passing speeders, but he could hear the restrained laughter in his voice. He was expecting a mild half-joking reprimand to follow. What he wasn't expecting was for it to be accompanied by fingers dancing across his stomach to exploit the weakness his master had discovered by chance some weeks before.
"And this will teach you to show some respect for your elders!"
Anakin found himself writhing on the cold surface of the platform in a paroxysm of laughter, weakly swatting at Obi-Wan's hands in an attempt at self-defence. "Ma — Mast — Sto —" he protested, gasping for breath, before laughter overtook all his attempts at speech.
He loved these free moments they had alone, away from the expectations the Order imposed on him — on both of them. After all, Obi-Wan had been thrust into a role he wasn't prepared for just as suddenly and unexpectedly as Anakin had, and he was having just as much difficulty adjusting to it. Often they became so absorbed in playing their parts that they forgot that there was still an Obi-Wan and an Anakin behind the respective roles of Jedi master and apprentice.
Obi-Wan discontinued his onslaught as abruptly as he had started it and Anakin was left lying on his back, his lungs still spasming with breathless bursts of laughter that gradually subsided into stillness once more.
"So, you really intend to drop me off on some Force-forsaken planet and go gallivanting off across the galaxy the moment you're a man?"
"No," Anakin admitted, clambering into Obi-Wan's lap and drawing the excess of the older Jedi's robe up around him. He smiled into the folds of fabric, his master's comforting warmth staving off the chill of the Coruscanti night. "I'm going to take you with me."
