Mission 1:

Prologue/Believe

Do you believe in demons? Devils that walk among us? No?

I suppose that's the best answer.

But just because you don't believe in it doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. Same goes for the reverse, now that I think of it. I mean, Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy?

Though the creatures I'm talking about don't go around in beards and sleighs. They have their own kind of magic, but it's not the kind for bringing joy to the world. It's the kind to be used for the taking of another's life...whether it be human, beast...or even another demon.

I relinquished my birth name long ago. I used to be called Mary, but now I'm called something else. The name that Dante gave to me a while ago.

My name is Lady.

I'm a Devil Hunter...one who hunters the creatures I spoke of earlier. We're not really a secret, you just have to know to look for us. Although some of us have are jobs disguised as others, such as a certain guy I know who claims to be a detective, going around and finding lost cats on the side of killing these evil creatures (the job isn't exactly making him a millionaire, though- he owes me a huge amount of cash that he never seems to be able to pay off...not the mention the money he spends on those coats and boots!). What's his name? It's Dante.

The story I'm about to tell isn't about me. In fact, I'm barely in it. But I've been told parts of it, and the rest had to be filled in by either common sense or some fiction writer we hired to do so (Dante and I don't need imaginations- we have enough fiction running around as it is).

What is this story about, then? It's not about Dante. It's not about Trish, Dante's ex-partner. It's not about Corius Kidafk, or about Rolke Lloyd. It's not even about Devil Arms and Devil Bringers, or those who wield them.

It's most certainly not a trite tale about love and friendship(, yada yada yada). It's a tale about demons and those who hunter them. It's a story about all of those affected by a series of causes and effects. It's a recording of the events that all revolved around a veteran Devil Hunter and a newbie.

This was the meeting of Dante and Rolke.

Author's Note: Ugh. Not only am I not used to doing prologues, but I'm not used to doing such short chapters. I swear that they'll get much longer!

In any event, hello if you don't know me. My name is Salazare, and I've written many crappy stories in the past. The good ones seem to be left unfinished, for some reason...

This one is aimed to be my best. I hope that I will not lose faith in it (maybe low numbers of reviews was what caused me to to give up on the others...not to blame the readers, or anything). So please, in return for me spending my time on this story, read it. Review it. Tell me what I can improve on. If you do that, then we can establish a firm relationship as author and reader.

By the way, for those of you who weren't able to notice, "Prologue/Believe" was not meant to be read as a similarity to "Prologue: Believe", but instead as something more like "it's the Prologue, but it's also titled 'Believe'". Something like that.

The next chapter will be longer. I promise.

Please R&R!
