Caranthir and Eldarien
(in the mode of the Kalevala)
Tall, dark Caranthir uttered a word, spoke thus.
"Fair Eldarien, sell me your steed,
Sell me your stallion of the silver moon.
Sell me the only son of golden Nahar,
Sell me your black-maned steed."
She replied, uttered a word, spoke thus:
"Never will I sell my stallion to you.
Never my spirited black stallion to the likes of you,
Were Oromë himself to command me,
I would never sell my black-maned stallion to you."
He then replied, spoke thus:
"I will give you my golden-maned stallion,
And my silver one too, and his swift footed foal.
I will give you all that stray in my lands
All the fair steeds of Caranthir's Dor."
"Never," said she,
"Even were you to give me the wealth of the Valar,
The bright gems and fair jewels of the Valar.
I will not part with my black-maned colt,
Not with the only son of golden Nahar.
Never with the black stallion Ithil."
She left him to lament,
To long for the only son of Nahar.
The black son of golden Nahar,
The swift, black-maned stallion.
