Two Different Kinds of Pieces
Numbers were his memories, his soul, broken into a hundred pieces, and within those pieces were two special ones. One represented the darkness in him: the despair, the want to destroy. The other represented his light: hope, the saviour who sought to preserve. Not illuminate, otherwise it would be White Knight Illuminator but that was one of the many numbers he never did call out in a duel.
In contrast, Hope came out in every duel that involved him and a number to date.
As for the Dark Mist… Maybe it was because Hope was the only one that had remained, the one he'd come to trust. Maybe it was because Dark Mist had fought to dominate. But there would never be an accord between the two: between Astral and this darkness that was once him, but never again.
