Reason to Live
It had been a long time since Spira had seen the face of terror they know as Sin. A week, a month, a year. No one knows anymore. They were all enjoying the freedom they had never known. The freedom to walk where they choose, without fearing for their lives. The freedom to use machina, a practice that had been forbidden by the teachings of Yevon.
Yet, not all of Spira was enjoying the freedom they had. In the remote Besaid Island, a whistle could be heard everyday by the villagers. Young children often liked to whistle along, while the adults often bent their head down in prayer. The whistle always came from the port, where there always stood only one person. The High Summoner who, along with her guardians, defeated Sin forever. Her name was Yuna. She clung to the memories of her pilgrimage. She remembered all that happened. But most of all, she remembered the people she met.
Especially this young man she met. He was an eccentric young man who jumped in to matters head first, without stopping to think. He was tall, had blonde hair and deep, deep eyes. He was her guardian, as well as her friend. But at the end of Yuna's pilgrimage, he left her. He left her and she hasn't seen him since.
So now everyday, Yuna goes out to the port and whisltes at the ocean, hoping that she'll see him again. She whistles and whistles until she can't whistle anymore. Then she returns to her village, wearing a smile on her face, not showing how she really feels. Because she feels that she has to be strong for the people who believed in her and put all of their trust in her when she began her pilgrimage.
While Yuna goes around the world to different places to help rebuild what Sin destroyed, in accordance to the speech she made after defeating Sin, she also searches for that young man. She asks random people. if they'd seen him, hoping to get even a tiny clue as to where he is, but the answer is always the same. "Sorry Lady Yuna, I haven't seen him." or "No. I'm sorry Lady." At times, she wonders why she is even looking for the young man.
But one day, while she was helping out in Kilika, she got a different answer. She had asked a old man if he had seen the young man and his response was "Why Lady Yuna? Why do you continue to obsess over finding this young man?" and her response to him was "Simple. He is my reason for living. He is the man I love." After hearing herself say that, she no longer had any doubts as to why she was searching for him. She no longer feared disappointment, or dreamt of being unable to find him. She merely continued searching, only now she knew why she was.
And her searching payed off. Two years after he left her, and she had her first lead. It was a sphere, shown to her by Rikku, one of her guardians from before. It showed of a young man that looked like the one she was searching for. After seeing the sphere, she immediately made up her mind to join the Gullwings with the hopes of finding the one she loved.
