Noctis never really thought much of the fact that he would wake up to breakfast prepared and waiting on the table after he moved into his new apartment. He'd always had food ready first thing in the morning for him his entire life, why would it be any different now?

That also meant he never put much thought into how it got there, obviously Ignis was preparing all of his meals, but it was like the old saying 'out of sight, out of mind'. So, he just sort of forgot.

Noctis forgot that his official unofficial babysitter came by twice a day every day, it was just part of the routine. He forgot that technically he didn't have much privacy, and it was near impossible to keep a secret.

Also, he forgot to tell Prompto.

"Noct, Noct." A harsh whisper and violent shaking dragged Noctis from the blissful world of sleep to the harsh one of the waking.

"Mmm, what is it Prompt?" Noctis muttered into his pillow sleepily, burrowing further under the blankets.

"Do you hear that?" Prompto's spoke in hushed tones, clutching the blanket to his bare chest in fear. "Did someone break in?"

The idea was enough to wake Noctis up, and propped himself up, letting the comforter fall to his waist. He listened intently for a few moments, the sounds of someone in the other room coming through the bedroom door. "Oh, no." He groaned, flopping back down

Prompto sat up in full on panic mode. "What is it? Did someone really break in?"

"I wish." Noctis shook his head, trying to bury himself in the bed and hide forever, "It's worse." He whispered dejectedly. "Ignis is making breakfast." Those sounds were pots and pans, running water, and other uniquely kitchen sounds.

All the color drained from Prompto's face, obvious even in the dim half light streaming through the curtains. "What?"

Noctis turned his head to the side for air, the smothering himself option not going as planned. "Ignis is making breakfast." He whispered more clearly. "He's out there cooking, that's what that sound is."

"Yeah," Prompto swallowed around a lump in his throat, "But why?"

"Because he does it every day. Every single day." Noctis really hated himself right about now, how had something so important slipped his mind? "And I am an idiot."

Prompto looked from Noctis to himself, a situation didn't get more compromising than this. There was no way to explain this if they were caught. "What do we do?" They had been so careful, until now.

Noctis grabbed Prompto and pulled him down into the bed, wrapping his arms around him. "We lay here, and pray he doesn't notice anything."

"And if he does?" Prompto's heart was racing, for more than just fear of getting caught.

"Then we're fucked." Noctis said sleepily, and burrowed his face into the crook of Prompto's neck. "We'll never hear the end of it." He'd probably tell Gladiolus too, and that was going to be a never ending nightmare of torment.

There was a sharp knock at the door, causing both of them to jump up and turn to stare wide eyed, hearts in throats.

"If you and your...guest are already awake, you may as well come and have breakfast while it's still hot." It might have been Noctis's imagination, but he was sure that he heard amusement in Ignis's voice. So much for keeping a secret.

Prompto was bright red, mouth hanging open as he looked to Noctis for answers.

Noctis's shoulders heaved with a sigh, he shrugged, tossing the blankets aside and getting up. "Nothing we can do now, might as well eat." Today was going to be a long day.
