There was something about his midnight prowl that made him revisit that giant Pensieve. It was thirty one minutes past midnight, it was the ninth of January, and he belatedly realized it was already his seventy seventh birthday. That was the reason for the furtive felicitations from the portraits he had passed.

After that terrible session with his ordered memories, he stalked out again. He had noticed students out of bed and he gleefully seized upon the opportunity.

Seeing the students up close, his heart nearly stopped. His Slytherin grandson and Potter's Gryffindor daughter were locked in a passionate embrace.
