The Great Ocean Wide

Pocahontas stares out at the sea through sullen eyes. Her fate led her to John Smith and it seems that is all she was meant for. He left so that his grievous wound could be healed, but he left many moons ago.

The sky is blue, as blue as the sea, but at times it has been as black as the darkest nights. The waters have crashed against the land as often as they have caressed it. They were destructive in the days following his departure and she dare not stray to the possibilities that arise from those storms.

The possibility that he could be lying beneath the waves in an eternal slumber brings an ache to her heart and soul. The image her mind conjures by its own will is peaceful and serene. It makes the fate look to be somewhat pleasant. However, she knows very well that it wouldn't have been.

There is no comfort to be gained from staring, she knows. There is little comfort to be had in her home with her people. They watch her with sympathetic and concerned expressions. They only make the conjured images of death more vivid and life-like.

The wind whispering through the forest reminds her of their days spent together. Every sound, every sight and all that her life encompasses reminds her of him. Her people worry for her, she knows that. She doesn't want to cause them concern but she can't stop.

How can she simply surrender this watch of hers? He is her destiny; her fate. She is meant to be there by his side or him by her side. Her fate cannot simply vanish, and yet, if it has, then love can't. She can never forget the world that he's a part of, but she can't wait forever either.

Author's Note: I was sad when I started this so the beginning is decent. I was not sad during the middle so that is why that isn't particularly good. I was a little bit down at the end which is why that is slightly better. I don't particularly like this movie or the sequel. However, this is a part of my childhood and therefore there is a great deal of meaning for me. That is sole reason that this exists. I did enjoy the experience of writing this. I thank you for reading. I hope that you enjoyed reading. I apologise if you were unsatisfied.
