The Scarlet A
Tune: We Three Kings

AN: This poem is really more a song and is set to the tune "We Three Kings." In order to make it seem more ... er... songlike... I extended some of the words. The words with dashes should be held longer, if one was singing it. So, without further ado...

We three humans sinners be
Standing on dread pillory
When above, through the sky flashed
The dreaded scar-let A

Oh, oh, A of scarlet, color bright
Sky lights up with burning light
Shining strong, all mortal's sin
Lies here in pure plain sight.

I, Hester, adult'er be
But now, togeth'r, at last are we
In the bright flash, I saw my lie
And the cursed Scar-let A

Oh, oh, A of scarlet, color bright
Sky lights up with burning light
Shining strong, all mortal's sin
Lies here in pure plain sight.

Dimmesdale, I, dre--ad my life
My sin eats at me from the inside
And on the scaffold, sky re-flec-ted
M-y own Scar-let A

Oh, oh, A of scarlet, color bright
Sky lights up with burning light
Shining strong, all mortal's sin
Lies here in pure plain sight.

I am Pearl, my mother's great prize.
I saw the letter with mine eyes.
The sky lit up and on the min-i-ster
I saw the Scar-let A

Oh, oh, A of scarlet, color bright
Sky lights up with burning light
Shining strong, all mortal's sin
Lies here in pure plain sight.
