Vision

Heaving a dissatisfied suspire, I gritted my teeth, pressing my lips together into a thin line as I cast my eyes over the last remnants of the battle. I had given them a chance to surrender, but they simply had to continue defying me…

Then again, their ends would have probably come regardless.

Oh, how I love taking part in a bit of slaughter in the morning…

And it felt like I hadn't done so in so long. I was infatuated with the splatter effect created by blood spilt across sand, the gratifying crunch emitted from bones snapped beneath my fingers, the terrified expression painted on victims' faces only seconds before death. This was only a warm-up. However, this little spar had been a bit too short for my taste. Cherubim lay in pieces at my feet and all around, as if they hadn't fought back at all. In comparison to the very small party I brought alongside me, the light angels hardly represented any sort of threat. Pathetic…

"H-have we finished here, m-my lord?" Virgil, his simper all fang, gazed up at me, his cerise eyes searching my face for a hint of appreciation in his actions. I gave him no such thing. In fact, I laughed directly in his face.

"Finished?" Ridicule wiped that smirk right off. "We've hardly begun." My voice held a jovial sort of tone, though my excitement in the task I was about to undertake invented a sort of menace in my voice. Naturally submitting, Virgil's bat wings folded against his back, his russet ears tilting back to his skull.

Sneering, I swept past him, setting my sights on my prize. Not the Gardens of Eden, no, but the sword which guarded them. Nuhherev.

With Nuhherev at my side, on my side… a delightful chill raced up my spine in anticipation.

I stepped forth to the pedestal and beheld the sword, power practically crackling between my eager fingertips and the gleaming hilt. I closed my hand around the sword and smirked, feeling the same flame that surrounded the blade begin to burn within me as well. All became clear to me.

This time, I would not lose.

A/N: Nuhherev is my invented name for the burning sword that guards Eden. "Nuhherev" is a combination of the words "fire" and "sword" in hebrew (probably inaccurate, I know). Anyway... Just working in manipulating my character, Azrael, and going through the motions of how his mind works. Also, some work on tone and perspective. Just a quick little thing I wrote up for the sake of crawling out of writer's block.

Azrael and Virgil are (c) me.
