In Nami's life, after her mother was killed and her village overrun by pirates, all that inspired her life was fear, pain, and loneliness.

Fear of Arlong and his crew destroying her village.

The pain that she endures to get the money she needs to buy back her village.

And the loneliness of having to turn her back on her village in order to save it.

Luffy came along and her life was changed. Afterwards it was hope, happiness, and friends that made her life.

Hope that one day she could achieve her dream of making a map of the whole world, for herself and nobody else.

Happiness because they took her just the way she was, a no-good, back-stabbing thief of pirates, with the scars to prove it.

Friends that never left her alone on the ship for a single second, forever having something happening.

But then the closer she got to home, the more she felt the fear, the pain, the loneliness. Only they came back a thousand times worse. Because, not only did she feel for her village, she felt for this group of wayward pirates she called her friends. Every single one of them.

Fear of them coming to try and save her, then having Arlong tear them to shreds right in front of her.

The pain because she knows they will come for her whether she wants them to or not.

The loneliness because she knows she's going to have to leave them and turn on them just as she did her village.

After all the struggles in Nami's life, Luffy was something new that she welcomed with open arms, and pushed away with all her might.
