"What kind of love is this, friends? What kind of love is that is so big, so without bounds, that He would come, He would want, He would want to do so much to rescue people who wanted nothing to do with Him? Who fought Him even when He came to cleave us from hell?
What kind of love is it that sees us in our filth, comes to rescue us, sees us resist that rescue, but continues to rescue us anyway? What foolishness is this? That He would come offer us rescue and we would say, "No!" Why? What are we gaining by our resistance? Oh,
how glorious He is, that He saw you like that and didn't give up!"
Rain poured down on earth from the heavens, every drop a sorrowful reminder of the sad state of the world. The Son stood with His Father on the earth, both shining brightly with Their shared Glory and untouched by the rain. The triune God had stepped foot on the earth, now tainted by the touched of sin following the fall of man. The Father turned His all-seeing gaze to His Son and spoke with a thundering, commanding voice filled with sorrow, "oh, now, My Son. Here is a company of miserable souls cold, undone, and searing their conscience with hearts black as coals. Here now they lie, objects of justice. They deserve My wrath, but speak Your reply. What shall be done for them? Draw out Your path."
"No one can contain the power and depths of my abundant love," the Son replied, His voice thundering, commanding, and filled with sorrow just as His Father's. "Father, I say, such is My love and pity for all. There is a way for no condemnation on man to befall. No man can pay, so I'll make a way. I'll be utterly broke and poor to settle their debt and even though all have gone their way I'll yield a way for their sins to forget." The Son looked out upon the earth and continued, "bring in all their sins, lay it all on Me. Every last bill they owe, lay it all on Me, for what they reap, I will sow. The place these souls have found themselves is indeed one of great distress, for even all their righteousness is just a filthy mess."
"Oh, My Son," the Father met the Son's eyes. "You must understand that if I show mercy, You must reckon to pay the last bit of My rage, for justice reigns upon this throne, perfection without flaw. How can the wicked find their peace and still have broken every law?"
"Let it be so," the Son looked out upon the earth once more. His eyes fell on man with great compassion and love. "Charge it on Me, for I can bear the weight of sin, so all will be free." The fate of man had been decided. A terrible punishment was to be laid upon One Who did not deserve it, in order for man to live.
Hey there! It's Blue! This is just my own interpretation of the song "The Father's Bargain" by an amazing band called Wolves At The Gate. The song is about the exchange between God the Father and God the Son when deciding what would be done to man concerning his sin. Of course, my theology is probably all wrong in this story and really, I think the song was written more to give an idea as to how much Jesus loves us than to be a literal event. It's still a super powerful song and if you're into hardcore Christian metal then I recommend looking it up. Let me know what you thought about this because I am considering writing more short stories to interpret Christian songs and I'll even take recommendations if you have any! (And if you just have an awesome song you want to share, I'll totally look it up) God bless! Thanks for reading! Maranatha!
I do not own the song or lyrics! They belong to Wolves At The Gate!
