Losing Makes You Human
He watched as she walked towards, head bowed low to hide her tears.
"You were great out there." he told her, reaching out to hold her hand as he grinned. "Chojiro-san is strong and has a lot of experience under his belt..."
"..I..."
"... so you shouldn't feel bad for losing against him." Yugo finished, giving her a hug that she returned. "Crow-nii taught us to learn from our losses and always get back up again. Believe it or not, this loss mattered more to your way of becoming a better duelist than a win would have."
"You think so?" Yuzu looked surprised. He chuckled and poked the pinkette's forehead.
"Yeah. A win would have made you a bit too cocky and, considering we don't know who your next opponent would be, it could have caused you to lose in a much more ... violent ... fashion."
"But the people hate me now... just like Yuya." she frowned. So did Yugo.
"All of them are a bunch of snobs who don't care about anyone who isn't a winner even if they put up a great fight before going down. Your dueling was perfect out there, Yuzu, even more so for your first in a riding duel. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise!"
"Yugo... thank you." Yuzu smiled. "... you are right, I should prepare myself more in case that guy decides to come after me..."
"True." he nodded. "But I will protect you. Because this time, I will be around..."
She looked at him sadly and playfully ruffled his hair as she grinned, swaying on her feet. She looked back outside as the announcer lady shouted the next pair to duel: Serena versus some guy the pinkette didn't know. Smiling, she turned to face Yugo.
"Don't worry, we all make mistakes." she said. "We are only human after all... now let's go watch Serena's match! She will win for sure, but I want to cheer her on!"
"Alright..." Yugo chuckled as they walked out into the stands.
