Chapter 1 - Writer's Block
October 1, 2010 - INT. Mort's Hotel Room/Detroit, Michigan - 3:13:18 A.M.
Mort is sitting in front of his laptop. His eyes have bags under them. A bottle of Jack Daniels sitting front of him, and a cigarrette in his hand. It has been 6 years since the passing of his ex-wife Amy, and the "vanishing" of John Shooter.
Mort Rainey (voice-in-head): Stuck again, you damn fool. You used to be a writer, you ignorant bastard, and a good one at that.
There is a knock at the door, and flashes of Amy cheating on him with Ted flashes before Mort's eyes. He's still not over the pain. He approaches the door, and answers it.
Jack Mossee: Some of the neighbors can smell smoke, uh, Mr. Rainey...and, well, you've been living here for a month now, and well, there's a no-smoking policy that I a sure you're familiar with.
Mort blows smoke in Jack's face.
Mort Rainey: Yeah...I'm aware of that rule. Does it look like I give a fuck?
Jack Mossee: I'm afraid to say, no...but you have to quit, or we'll have to throw you out on your ass.
Mort glares at Jack.
Jack Mossee: So...uh, please, just try to cut it out.
Mort Rainey: Okay...perhaps, maybe...you're right. I'll smoke outdoors, away from this place, if it'll comfort you.
Jack Mossee: Thank you.
Mort Rainey: Want to come inside? Have some corn? I get bored this late at night.
Jack Mossee: Uh...sure.
Mort Rainey (voice-in-head): You know it's not a good idea.
Mort Rainey: Shut up.
Jack Mossee: What?
Mort Rainey: Nothing, come on in.
Mort shuts the door and walks to the kitchen. He picks up a knife, and hides it behind his back. He approaches the landlord, a short, chubby man with glasses, and goofy clothes. He slits his throat, spilling his blood on the walls. He stabs the man twice in the back, and once in the belly. Blood is on his pajamas and robe. His glasses are dripping in blood. Mort throws down the knife, sticking it in the floor.
Mort Rainey: Fat bastard. Mind your own business. I like my privacy.
