Lacuna: I know I should work on my multi-chapter stories but I just had to write this. I was walking downtown yesterday when the first line came into my mind. It echoed and begged to be written. The rest that followed came naturally.
Please enjoy :)
Disappear
If a girl screams at the top of her lungs and no one is around to hear it, does she make a sound?
The cries of Hotaru Tomoe echoed through the empty mansion of her father, Doctor Souichi Tomoe. Ever since that fateful day in her father's laboratory, the day of the accident, the young girl suffered immensely. It was at that pivotal point in Hotaru's life that she awakened. That was when she took over the girl's already miserable life.
And the most painful thing? Her father no longer cared.
If a girl cries and doesn't tell anyone, does it mean it isn't happening?
The being who calls herself the 'Dark Messiah of Silence' was purely an evil entity. She wants nothing more than to awake her master with some 'Holy Grail' and devour the world in complete, never ending silence. None will survive, not even her own devoted slaves.
She overpowers Hotaru and uses her vessel to control her pawns. At this point she is only strong enough to take over for short periods of time but Hotaru knows that she will grow stronger. Eventually the Messiah will take complete control of her vessel and Hotaru Tomoe will cease to exist.
The silence will follow.
And because of this Hotaru cries. Constantly she cries, for if she allows the Messiah to prevail all will perish.
And it will be entirely her fault.
If a girl hears a voice in her head and no one else can hear it, does that mean she's insane?
People already fear and despise Hotaru. She has an unnatural ability to heal wounds and used it once to aid an injured classmate. Instead of showing the girl gratitude he, along with the rest of their peers, labeled her a 'freak' and a 'witch' and avoided her at all costs. Because of this she became withdrawn and sought the solitude of her bedroom.
…and now she's hearing voices. People would have a strong case to support the theory of insanity.
…which means Hotaru is forced to remain painfully silent.
If a girl bleeds and no one is around to see it, does the liquid not stain her skin crimson?
And so the afflicted teen has decided: matters must be taken into her own shaking hands. If the Messiah has no vessel she could not envelope the world in silent darkness.
The metal gleams in the dim light of the moon. In mere moments the deed is done. The Messiah shrieks in horror as the room begins to spin in slow motion around herself and Hotaru. The shared vessel sinks to the floor and the now stained blade hits the ground with a metallic 'clink'.
In a sense the Messiah got her wish for silent darkness.
…and Hotaru finally found her peace.
If a corpse decays and nobody seems to smell it as it rots, does it mean that she never truly existed in the first place?
