Dearest Diary,
How foolish I feel, writing my thoughts into a book like a child. But pray thee, I cannot help myself! So much has happened in just this one night, that if I don't express these emotions within me, I shall surely burst!
The day started just as any other, though since Father was having a party tonight, I had to stay indoors and prepare. It would seem that was for the best, as the Nurse told me a quarrel broke out in the market square today. Over what, I know not of, but one hardly has to furrow a brow to guess. As evening came and the feast was to begin, Mother summoned me and, along with the Nurse, questioned me on a subject of which I have no interest of. I know Mother feels I should be wed soon, but she acts as if it is a matter of life and death. And now that Count Paris has shown interest in my hand, her efforts will only double. I was grateful for the Nurse's interference, as I feel she understands me the most, though her opinion quickly changed after hearing Mother speak. It seemed Cupid's influence was everywhere but within me…until tonight.
When I first laid my eyes on him, I couldn't help but be paralyzed by his face. In peering into his eyes, my breath quickened and I couldn't help but blush as he smiled at me and came my way. O, did my ears deceive me so, or was his voice truly that of a divine angel? And his kiss; o, his tender kiss! How my lips long for his, as the desert longs for rain. His lips were like a drug - a poison called "Montague." Ay, my lovesick heart, for it is true. This man whom I've come to love, o truly love, is a Montague, my sworn enemy by birth, for I am a Capulet. Ah, but if his surname speaks death, his true name sings resurrection. O, Romeo, Romeo! Why must my thoughts be plagued by my enemy's son? But…I cannot deny my love for him, this forbidden love. Cupid's arrow has struck my heart, and I have fallen into love's bittersweet trap.
