AN: Whoa. Long time ago, this was...but hey, I feel like actually making a story about it. Plus I felt so guilty for contributing to the Mass of Unfinished Stories on Woooooooo. Thanks to True Blue for helping me with a name or two (even if they're not shown in this chapter!)
Kailana swirled shredded cheese into her chili idly and waited for the other girls to come back. They'd gone to pick up something to make her feel better, but she doubted it would work. Mark was the love of her life...and now he was gone. No super-special high school meant less chance of a good college... At least there was cheap food court "soup".
"Would you like some more nourishment?" a harsh-sounding voice asked. Kailana jerked her head up as her thought train derailed and stared in shock at the jet-black being who stood in front of her. It was dressed in a dark gray waitress-type dress with black apron and accents, and was wearing a black fedora. "Or would you like...death?"
Kailana scrambled from her plastic chair as the waitress slammed her black tray cleanly through the table. "W-wh-what on earth ARE you?!" she yelled from her new seat on the floor.
"Your...doom!" cackled the oddly metallic voice. Just as it prepared to attack Kailana for the last time, a shadow loomed over the pair.
"STOP RIGHT THERE!"
The waitress-thing and the scared teen both turned to look at a trio of sailor-suited warriors.
"You have no right to keep threatening her! For the love of hopes and dreams, and for the smiles of tomorrow! We shall stop your evil reign!" The apparent leader stepped forward as she spoke, smiling impishly and wagging her finger. "Now, just put the lunch tray down, and--WHOA!" The brunette senshi ducked the thrown trayblade and pouted. "That was a perfectly good speech you ruined!"
"Bite me," it sneered.
"All right, I will! Sparkle...Quarry...Shake!!" Sailor Straw Terrier unleashed a blast of energy and blew the thing backwards a full five feet. It seemed surprised by the attack...did such a weak-looking girl really just do that?
"Believe me now?" Sailor Straw Terrier shook her head and smiled. "Don't underestimate girls in miniskirts and masks." She let off another Sparkle Quarry Shake and watched, satisfied, as the monster imploded into a small green crystal. Picking it up, the brunette placed it in a soft gray velvet bag and gestured to the other two sailors, who were helping to put the food court back to rights. "We're done here, girls." The three turned to leave.
Kailana picked up her courage, stood up, and walked after them for a bit. "Th...thank you!" Sailor Straw Terrier didn't turn, but still raised a hand and waved a little in acknowledgement.
"It's not for you, but you're welcome," she called back. One of the other senshi, the green-suited one, made a small gesture and mumured something, and the trio disappeared.
Kailana sat back down in the nearest chair, all thoughts of Mark driven straight out of her mind. Those girls were so...collected, like they knew exactly what they were doing. She smiled and hoped they would meet again, in a more favorable situation next time.
