A Ballade of Dracula
Long ago, in Transylvania, lived a warrior, brave and bold
With his Lady Analehna, sweet and lovely to behold.
One dread morning rode this warrior into battle on his steed.
Long and hard he fought the devils till, at last, he did succeed.
By her window, Analehna, waited with a wife's concern
For her warrior, for her sweetheart, for her soul mate to return.
Then, at last, there came a message, foul and lying from the foe--
"We have won, and he is dead--beheaded by a swordsman's blow."
Analehna wept in sorrow, then she prayed to God above,
"Lord, forgive me, for you know, I cannot live without my love."
From her window in the castle, Analehna flew toward death
With the name of her beloved whispered with her final breath.
Home this warrior rode, victorious, eager for his lady fair,
But instead of his beloved, wailing mourners found he there.
Seeking comfort, peace, and hope, the warrior knelt before the priest,
"Promise me that I shall see her, when my soul shall be released."
"Never!" said the priest, "for such a sin forgiveness cannot be...
She is doomed to live apart from you-- and God-- eternally!"
In that moment, evil rose within the warrior bold and brave,
"If the soul of my beloved, neither man nor God can save...
If forever I am doomed to live apart from my own Heart...
If my soul can never join the soul from whom I cannot part...
I shall never live again, yet I shall never die. 'Tis true...
That foul beast that preys, I shall become, forever--NOSFERATU..."
