A Different Eternity
Nine hundred years-
I've been sailing the dark waves of space
And I've flown with the whirlwinds of time
I left footprints in the stardust everywhere
And I've seen entire worlds collide
Still, all this time seems to fly by
In the blink of a dying star
If you're always on the run
But right now, with the heat of a thousand suns screaming in my bones
And nine hundred lightyears from a nonexistant home
I feel the weight of every shattered minute...
At least you live, Rose. At least you live.
But I was foolish enough to absorb a vortex
And I'm telling you, no one's meant to do that...
I feel its energy bolting through my veins
And I know that behind all this pain
I could behold the universe-
I could look beyond the ticking time and fold up every blurring world...
But my stubborn, ancient gaze
Fixes on your helpless face
And though the world smashes like dripping paint
You seem clear as a glowing crystal
And I know that after my death came,
I'll have to see you with different eyes
And I'm scared that you won't mean the same
To me as you do now
And I hope you'll always brighten my life
And I hope you'll always cross my hearts
...What do I do if you won't?
So I'm taking in your marvellous image
And I'm clinging into my very last minute;
This isn't the day that everybody lives...
But believe me, Rose, that you were fantastic.
Absolutely fantastic.
