Cold. It was all she felt. She couldn't process any emotions, not after what she just witnessed, what she just lived through. What is a person supposed to feel after they survive a massive tragedy, after they've just danced with death itself? Are you supposed to be relieved? Happy? Scared? Rose didn't feel any of that. She was standing on the RMS Cornucopia, staring at the vast ocean. It looks so peaceful, yet she wonders how something that ended so many lives look so peaceful, and beautiful. Her eyes then shift to the statue of Liberty. For a second, as she locks eyes with the massive landmark, she feels…hopeful. She shouldn't feel that way; she lost the love of her life, her family, she has no money and no plan after the boat docks. For some reason, this statue, this statue made out of copper, nothing human makes her feel hopeful. Hopeful she can make it in this cruel world. Her hand jiggles around in Cal's coat pocket, and feels something. Curious, she grabs the mysterious item. What she lifts is the heart of the ocean. It's beautiful, but all she can see is the filth, as all it reminds her is of Cal. Rose feels the sudden urge to throw it in the ocean, however decides against so, as there are many around, and she feels too weak to chuck an expensive necklace. For a minute, she considers selling it. After all, nothings stopping her.; it was a gift after all, she needs the money. However, she wonders how she would feel knowing once again, she is at Cal's mercy? No. She would make her money on her own. Doing what, she's not sure. But in no way will Cal Hockeley ever help her.
"Excuse me miss? Your name?" Rose looks up and sees a young crewmember with a pen and paper. She can see his breathe in the cold air.
What does she say? Does she give her real name, and risk her mother finding her and forcing her to marry Cal? Or does she risk losing everything and starting from scratch? How does one pick a name? All of these questions running through Rose's head, and she feels she may faint.
"Dawson. Rose Dawson." She replies. The young woman hadn't even though of taking Jack's last name as of now. It's not a complete lie, they wanted to get married when they docked, and start a life. It seems, silly, and Rose realises this. But she loved him so much, in the short time they knew each other. Her mind goes back to the promise she made to Jack. She'll honour his wishes, and every step of the way, she will think of him.
Rose takes a deep breath, and wipes away stray tears from her face. No crying. She doesn't get to cry when so many people lost their lives, and she still has hers. Instead, she smiles as she thinks about Jack, and the brief but loving moments they shared.
