"…the future spread out before you."

"You're going to be brilliant. Shine like the stars, you will. Your name will go down in history, and generations to come will learn about what you do." the Doctor says, staring deep into your eyes. In this moment you can see clearer than ever before that this is no mere man: this is the Time Lord. You can see the fire that burns in him, the agelessness that is disguised by a youthful face. You can see why the Darleks call him the Oncoming Storm. His eyes are wide, shining, and you feel that he is seeing more than just little, mortal you--he's seeing everything, weighing you, judging your choices…and he does not find you wanting.

"How do you know?" You ask, because that's the only question you can put into words right now.

He smiles, that wide, gleaming, sudden smile, that always surprises you with its abrupt appearances.

"I'm a Time Lord. I can see what will happen, what has happened, and you, you marvelous human, are going to be brilliant."

Your eyes are wide as his had been as you take this in. You will be brilliant. All will be well. It's a sentence you will take comfort and encouragement from in the years to come, long after the Doctor left. Sometimes you must remind yourself that he said brilliant, not easy. That promise of glory carries you through doubts, through breakups, through backstabbing, and through monotony, until you stand at the brink of that which will make you famous among humans forever. A wave of worries and fears swamp you, last minute butterflies. But today will go well. History will remember you. The Doctor said so, and the Doctor would know.

You step through the door, the whole of the future spread out before you.

It's going to be brilliant.
