Let me just say... I dedicate this to otherhawk and InSilva because a part of me only lives to read their stories. Seriously. Oh, and I don't own anything.
This is my first Ocean's fic and I'm really, really nervous and very, very tired. I actually have to get up in three hours to catch my bus to Prague... huh. But this just demanded to be written.
It was one thing to miss the flight from Tulsa to Las Vegas; it was another to spend the night in Mable's Motel. The walls were painted in some dark yellowish grey and the room was stifling and itchy and Danny could think of too many places he'd rather be that very moment.
Then they found out that the double bed had only one mattress that wouldn't kill your back.
Rusty said "You get the right side, you're older, you better watch your health" (which certainly didn't help the situation) and Danny didn't say a word. Instead he threw his bag against the wall (which, he had to admit, was very childish, and, of course, didn't help either).
They had missed their chance to boot Eugene McDoughy out of the Brandstein-case, they had lost their baggage to some plane that would land in South Vietnam within the next three hours and to top it all off, they hadn't found a decent free hotel room due to some gigantic apiarist meeting in Tulsa.
He just felt he should point it out again, so he did.
Rusty only sat down to watch Rawhead Rex, and while some Irish priest did something he never wanted to witness again, Danny contemplated. Quite loudly.
"Excellent. So what do we do now? Fly to Vietnam?"
Hershey's wrappers fell to the floor.
"We should've taken the time to add a Lizarrabengoa. You should have."
The bed squeaked.
"Remember that one time in Culiacán? Same thing. Some people learn from their mistakes."
A fly attempted suicide at their window.
"Sometimes, it doesn't help to bash your head against the wall," Rusty said.
Danny didn't say anything.
Extra Creamy Milk Chocolate with Cashews found its way into his palm. He pondered.
"Still mad?"
Actually, no. He unwrapped the chocolate.
"Must be the walls. They say taupe is very soothing."
