When Naruto first requested to train in the Forest of Death, Tsunade didn't really think much of it. She let it slide, since it meant that Naruto wouldn't be hanging around. When he continued to ask, and she continued to let him, the paperwork lying on her desk began to rise, higher and higher. When she finally got around to looking at it, it all consisted of reports from the Forest of Death officials.
The poisonous animals and man eating plants were mysteriously starting to disappear. The more scrolls she opened, the more her headache grew.
"SHIZUNE! GET NARUTO IN HERE RIGHT NOW!"
Naruto was escorted into the Hokage's office by two ANBU. He had leaves in his hair and was wearing black, camouflaged clothes. Blood was soaking his right leg and running down the side of his face. He grinned sheepishly at Tsunade.
"You called, Granny Tsunade?"
She took in his appearance with an arched brow.
"Are you injured?"
He shook his head as one of the ANBU standing behind him moved.
"We caught him killing one of the giant snakes in the Forest of Death."
Tsunade glared at Naruto.
"Which species?"
"One of the rarer ones, ma'am."
She sighed.
"What are you doing, Naruto?"
He rubbed his head, feeling his face flush.
"Erm... you could say that it was revenge for that stupid thing that tried to eat me in the chunin exam..."
Tsunade stood, shaking her head.
"According to the records, you made that snake explode by producing mass clones. What's the real reason you were in there?"
Naruto shuffled his feet, mumbling something unintelligible. Tsunade leaned closer.
"I'm sorry, what was that?"
He glanced up and looked down again.
"Konohamaru is about to take the chunin exam."
Tsunade stared at him.
"And you thought that you would clear the Forest of Death for him? That's cheating."
Naruto shrugged.
"I get lots of ramen out of this."
Tsunade sighed and shook her head.
"I thought you would be above bribery."
His expression turned naive as he tried to defend himself.
"But I am. I would never take money!"
Tsunade sighed again and waved the ANBU and Naruto out. He would never change.
