Just a little something I wrote during geometry class. Ugh. Geometry.
Charlie couldn't help but stare longingly at Claire Matthews as she wandered about the grocery store. The way her golden hair bounced with every step she took; beautiful eyes searched down each of the aisles with tinge of curiosity. Claire was most likely looking for coffee. As Charlie recalled, she had run out only yesterday. His fingers scanned the nearby magazines as a distraction, making it seem like he were actually looking to purchase something.
Claire was so close now. It was a wonder she couldn't feel his eyes bore into the back of her head.
A soft sigh escaped the woman and Claire's lips pursed with a slight pout. She walked out of the aisle, clearly not finding what she had wanted.
The ex-serviceman allowed a small smile to tug at the corner of his lips.
Everything froze as the two's eyes connected. Charlie quickly snapped his attention back to the nearby shelf while intently flipping past magazines. He felt panic surge through him when the woman did not look away. His heart rate intensified as Claire walked over o him. iShe suspects something./i The idea taunted him. Damn, how could he have been so careless? iShe knows./i Joe trusted him—gave him a purpose and now he ruined everything.
"Excuse me, can you tell me where they have the coffee?" Claire asked, stopping beside him. There was a long moment of silence.
Charlie was not instructed to talk with her like this. Watching her from a distance; that was the deal. His gaze fell upon her, maintaining a stoic expression. The veteran simply stared back at her seemingly awestruck. It was strange; he had been following her for months now, but this felt different. iIt made him feel./i He could feel something –some kind of emotion when she looked back at him. Joe's wife, Claire Matthews, he was falling for her; he realized that.
"They keep switching everything around." Irritation laced Claire's voice as she spoke. A smile graced her features as she patiently awaited an answer.
Charlie stayed quite while he gathered his bearings. "Fifth aisle to the right." He uttered.
"Oh, thank you." Claire beamed with a meek nod before spinning back around.
"Of course." He simpered; eyes never leaving her form as she disappeared behind a corner.
Charlie made his way back to his car, reaching for the notebook lying on the passenger seat.' iClaire went to the grocery store at 12:37/i' He jolted down. He eyed Claire as she made her way out to the parking lot. It was with good intentions that he shouldn't inform Joe of these feelings towards his wife; it was wrong and Charlie could never betray his mentor's trust.
