Jack McCoy was at a bar downing scotch and thinking. 'Right about now Arthur's firing Serena. It's for the best really. So why do I feel so cowardly for not being there?'
He sighed. 'Trouble is, Arthur's right. Serena has no business in the DA's office; but she'd make one hell of an advocate for anyone who's ever been marginalized by the system.'
"Another one?" the bartender asked dubiously.
"Yeah, why not" he answered.
With his fresh drink he proposed a toast, "To Serena Southerlyn, may you find something and someone you love to do."
As an afterthought he added with a grin, "Sure would piss Arthur off."
