Blue sky, clear, calm, peaceful not a cloud in sight. Emerging from the treeline I come upon a stream, standing still underneath the shadow of the nearest tree, blood on my claws still fresh from my kill I begin sniffing the air. Sensing that I'm alone I stride toward the river, always on the on the alert, staring down I see my reflection upon the water. My silky black fur is matted in blood, a fresh scar on my muzzle, my brown almond eyes have the same look as always anger, hate, rage, but with an underlying sadness of sorrow, loneliness, and heartache. I snarl at myself revealing razor sharp teeth stained with blood, I swipe at the image with both claws destroying what my eyes always betray to the world.

Letting the blood wash off I begin drinking from the stream, I start to reminisce on my pack, where are they?, What's happened to them?, When will we meet again?, Why do I leave them? Fur standing on end, chills going up my spine, something is wrong. Growling I look left, right, circle around, NOTHING. Sniffing once more I realize there's NO SCENT ANYWHERE, no birds fly overhead, none of there songs sing upon the wind, nor the incessant chattering of those damned squirrel's. Nothing I'm truly and utterly alone.

My gaze wanders to the treeline across the stream 30 feet away from me in the shadows two female wolves stare back at me, one a russet brown, the other a milky white with black socks on her front paws. Their eyes silently appraise me, as a cold wind rushes through me piercing my very being. Memories rush forth that I've tried to forget {The smell of burning wolf hair fills my nose, cry's of pain and death howls fill the air. Mother has me by my scruff as she carries me to safety across the river. She comes to an oak tree with a burrow long abandoned and sets me down within,'*Stay*' she says. the sick acrid smell of burning hair is replaced by singed flesh,'*I have to get your brothers.*' As she splashes across the river and disappears into the smoke, panic sets in, I begin to whimper loudly for mother to no avail. Crawling toward the entrance I try to see more clearly out of the burrow, fire now rises up near the river, howls of wolves are crying out less and less. I begin barking whimpers, *Where is mother?* As flames start to engulf a dead pine tree near the stream, a gust of wind blows some smoke revealing mother running to me, a gray fur ball in her mouth, my littlest brother. I bark,... CRACK,... BARK,... CRACK,... BARK,... *What is that noise?* '*Mother I'm here!*' BARK!...CRACK! CRACK! CA-RACK!... '*MOTHER! NOO!*'-} As the fires die down in my mind so does the memory. The brown she-wolf steps forth from the shadows, I growl at her, she stops mid-stride and seems to smile at me. she looks back at her younger companion and nods, hurriedly she bounds across the land and stream separating us, taking me by surprise, and leaps upon me. Rolling on the stream bank she pins me down, looking up at her my blood freezes in my veins, She begins to nuzzle my neck '*Gilbert.*' More memories flood in like a tidal wave as I inhale her scent,*I must be losing my mind,* how can she possibly be here, '*Maricela, your dead, we buried you, how-*' and just like that everything faded to black.

A ringing phone pierces through the darkness, "Damn it," I growl out I open my eyes and stare at the night stand, *Why did I get a cellphone.*
