Disclaimer: Death Note, is (c) Tsugumi Ohba and Takashi Obata. I only use the characters for my own twisted sense of fulfillment (and hopefully to amuse/intrigue some other fans too).
There were always
going to be a few people who would need to be sacrificed to create
the perfect world which Kira dreamed of. Innocents who stood in the
way, who challenged the will of their impromptu god, their slaughter
for the greater good was already pre-ordained.
L had been one of
those unfortunate few. The archangels of Kira's new world. For it was
only with his destruction that Kira could continue with his plans
without fear of the genius discovering him and trying to impose the
current laws of the land upon the not yet all encompassing god.
Kira
had easily disposed of the threat to his world, without fear or
regret, for a god did not feel such petty emotions or at least a god
should not. But even god could not betray his best friend without
remorse.
Raito sat in a booth at the small cafe across the
road from his university, absently sipping a cup of hot, black
coffee. He was almost finished his degree and would soon be joining
his father in the ranks of the Japanese police force, who were still
trying to capture Kira.
Without L there they had no chance. Sure
there was Mello and Near but Raito knew that he could easily outwit
the young pair. They may have wanted to become L's successors but
even combined they could not compair to the sleep deprived, sweet
treat loving, detective.
Raito sighed, resting his chin on his
palm, glancing across the table to the empty bench across from him.
He should have been filled with such joy at the fact that his ideal
world was almost complete, that very few obsticles still stood in
their way. Yet something was missing, something that created a void
within the young god to be.
Raito downed the last of his coffee as
he glanced at his watch, realising that it was time he left for his
last lecture of the day. He placed some money on the table to pay for
the service and pulled his thick coat back onto his body, rugging up
against the harsh chill that filled the air, before leaving the
quaint shop.
Back in the booth which had just been vacated sat an
empty cup of coffee across from a cup of tea, long since gone cold,
with a pile of sugar cubes and small creamer containers next to it
and beside that was a large slice of untouched strawberry shortcake.
The waitress who had come to clean the table and shook her head with
a small sigh, wondering who on earth the young man, that came in at
the same time and ordered the same thing every week, was waiting for.
The archangel L watched down over Kira, smiling slightly at
the new god's display of human emotion.
"Do not be sad
Raito-kun, you and I will see each other soon enough"
