"Mom" Alex asked from the passenger seat of the car "Why are we moving?"
"Its… been 3 years. But you still remember New Jersey right?"
"Kind of… but everytime I try to remember my head aches. I remember a house… and a school… and that's it"
Her mom sighed. "Yes honey… it seems like forever since you were 13 right?"
Alex nodded though she knew that time was not the culprit in her loss of memory.
They pulled into the drive way of a vaguely familiar house.
"This is where we lived"
"yeah" she whispered trying to grasp a far away memory… of two kids eating Popsicles on the front porch.
"Hey who lives next door?" Alex asked. The house was huge and looked marble.
Her mom looked thoughtful and worried at the same time "er… just some old friends. They probably wont remember us"
They both moved into the house. The floor was wooden and cracked. Her brother were coming with the moving van as was her dad.
When the moving van finally came Alex's dad sent her and her younger brother Max to hunt for a place for the layer.
They headed for the backyard. Max was usually quite. Alex did not know why. He always seemed like that he saw more than any fourteen year old boy should.
There was a little door on the ground (AN: you know those little cellars or something? Cant explain…) Max pointed to it and Alex nodded and pulled the door open. It was on the ground in the middle of the house's backyard and the next houses backyard. There were strange symbols on the door and looking closely they noticed it was magical symbols. As she opened the door voices wafted out.
"This is the remembrance spell "Cerebellum refill"" a female voice said. "Nate you try"
then a quite voice spilled out "Cerebellum refill" and then another voice came up it sounded like a toad. "GOLLY!" and then a sound of a slap and too other boys laughing.
Then there the boy who apparently had gotten smacked said something angrily "Everythings a joke right?" and marched up.
Alex looked at Max who ran away. The boys head emerged from the opening and he stopped his angry mutterings when he say Alex who took one look at the boy and her head started hurting. So she was looking at her converse.
"MOM!" He called and then another curly haired lady came out. She gasped and then two other boys came after her. Alex looked up and now it was her turn to gasp. Nate stared in awe and surprise and mirth.
"Auntie?" She asked walking up to the lady who wasn't really her aunt.
"Lexi?" She asked. Alex nodded. Alex turned "Shane?"
"Hey Al" he said nervously. She said hi to Jason and stopped infront of Nate. The moment they had anticipated.
"I don't remember you though… did you just move here?"
She watched Nate's face fall. And she watched him walk away. Everything was so confusing.
Auntie shook her head pityingly.
"Honey what are you doing here?"
"Mom wanted to move here. Me and Max were looking for a place for a layer."
"Well you can have your lessons with us"
Jason nodded sadness in his eyes. He walked up to Alex and brought out his wand "Cerrebelum refill" he whispered.
Shane put his arm around Jason. "nah dude that wont work"
She didn't remember him. She remembered them all except her. It wasn't fair. He sat on the front porch. With his head in his hands.
Well that had been the cost right? Her memory of him for her life?
A boy came and sat next to him he put his arm around him as if he knew what was troubling him.
"Who are you?" Nate asked embarrassed a stranger was comforting him.
"Come on you don't remember?" His voice dripped with sadness.
"Max? Man you've grown!"
"You met her didn't you"
"Yeah"
"I'm sorry"
Nate sighed. "Well I guess what's done is done. There is no way to patch it up."
"Maybe" Max said. Nate shuddered. Max was so cold and mysterious now nothing like the hyper 11 years old boy he had known before
"Maybe not"
