He was watching the moon again. He usually did that after they had sex. It was more relaxing than sleeping and subtler than petty, little words.

Draco was curled next to him, head resting on his chest. He could feel the blonde's warm breath against his skin, the rise and fall of his steady breathing. It was too peaceful. Too perfect.

Nothing was perfect. Nothing was ever perfect.

He refused himself the privilege of watching his lover sleep. It reminded him too much of a muggle romance film. And those sappy, delicate films always had happy endings. There was no happy ending here. There was only then and what lay after it.

He forced a sharp breath into his lungs, trying to calm the swollen tears threatening to rise. There was nothing to cry about, he told himself. He knew it would fade eventually. Everything did. You could be happy for one singular moment, so happy you thought if you died then you'd die the happiest person on earth, but in time, that moment would become a different moment-a moment not so happy. A moment of pain, anger, grief.

Right now, although he was trembling and sick with thoughts of the future, he was happy. Undeniably happy. Now, with all that was around him, he was only happy at night, in the bed hidden from prying eyes. With the lithe, chiseled body of his tormentor.

But tomorrow morning would come and he'd be alone again. Watching from a distance all the people he wished he could be. He wouldn't have Draco, or anyone, really. Not even Ron and Hermione-they had their own, delusional world where every second of every minute was happy and perfect.

But nothing is ever, ever perfect. They were only pawns in a game. A big game where they were forced to feel, to ache, to cry. That's all they were.

Harry Potter looked down at the sleeping boy resting against him.

"We were meant for so much more than this."
