It was a bright and early morning. Gohan's eyes had just popped open from a well-rested sleep. The wide open curtains that remained on the side of his bed let in the shining rays to wake him up. On his right side of him was his sleeping wife, Videl. He smiled, seeing his wife sleeping so peacefully. Just to think not too long ago that he was fighting multiple people from various universes with his own world on the line. Such a nightmare was gone now, although he still had dreams of recent events, his subconscious having him think of the endless possibilities that could have occurred.
For instance, what if the Omni King was to let all the destroyed universes remain destroyed and having such wish of them being brought back to life provoked? What if Universe Seven (his universe) were to be one of the tragic worlds to be erased? What then? All of the ones he knew and loved would be gone: His daughter, his mother, and his little brother, as well as the family of his own that he had formed. The 23-year-old shook his head, wobbling such thoughts from his mind. All that was over now.
He rolled over from the side of his bed and looked across the room. There in a crib was his daughter sound and asleep. It was quite rare that he woke up first out them all since Pan would usually be the first to rise and shine. He knew he was too young, but the man was proud to have a daughter like her. For not even being two years of age yet, she managed to show a lot of promise. From the friends and family she would be surrounded by in the upcoming years, Gohan knew that she'd be able to become whatever person she wanted to be: whether it be a martial artist like her grandfather or a scholar like the one after him. It was to be her choice, though the options were endless.
Son Gohan reached to his counter by the bed and grabbed at his reading glasses. He woke up a bit giddier than usual, so there was something special bound today. He rose up and left the room. Out of everything in the morning, Gohan would usually start off with a big breakfast, regardless if it were him or Videl to prepare it. But today, he headed straight for the front door.
Son opened it and looked outside. Cars were zooming by on the streets this busy morning while people were trying to bypass another without any physical contact with the multitude of people that walked by in the stuffy crowd. He wasn't looking forward to being involved in any of it and looked down. Just before his feet was a medium-sized brown box. He bent over, picked it up, and examined it closely.
"Now..." he looked over it. "Is this what I think it is?" Upon a brief amount of further inspection, his grin widened. "Yep!" Gohan turned his back from the people outside and headed back into his home, shutting the door behind him with his right foot. He headed into the kitchen and placed the box on the table. "Thank you, Bulma...!" He tore the box up and threw the pieces onto the large kitchen counter.
Once the gift was completely unwrapped, right before him appeared to be a black laptop computer. It was exactly as Gohan hoped it would be. "Now to set this up."
Gohan made sure to get himself comfortable and grabbed a cushion to place it under his behind prior to sitting down. As he was in his own comfort zone, he set up the computer. He waited a couple of minutes until the updates for the laptop were to be applied, then for it to direct him to setting up his personal password and the whole lot.
Approximately 10 to 15 minutes later, a loud ding was heard. He cracked his knuckles. "I'm finally in...!"
"Finally in what?" Videl came from upstairs, rubbing her tired eyes with Pan in her arms, still sound and sleeping.
"This computer that Bulma ordered for me," Gohan answered. For such a mature guy, even Videl could tell Gohan was having a hard time containing his own excitement.
"First day trying the internet, huh?"
"Not exactly," Gohan corrected. "I've been on the internet before, but there has been so many new updates and software installed; I'm just dying to see what's been changed, ya know?" Gohan moved his finger along mouse affixed to the keypad on the laptop and double tapped it. "Here's a new site called Ogogle. It's been blowing up recently."
Videl smiled. "You can have your fun for now, but be ready for a long day when Pan wakes up, Gohan. You, your dad, Krillin, and Vegeta are all supposed to spend the entire day here while Ms. Chi-Chi, Bulma, 18, and I all go out."
"Yeah, I know," Gohan said. Not for one moment when he responded to Videl did he even look her way. He was like a child looking dead center in a flat screen t.v. for the first time in his life. As he clicked on the Ogogle site, he noticed the first thing that popped up had to do with Father's day.
"Yep, today's the special day." Gohan surfed the web for a bit, not even bothering to look up common things. Being the smarty pants he was, Gohan was looking further into the components of the computer and the new search engines, looking at its technological make-up. "Heh. Bulma wasn't lying when she said some new things were added."
Just thinking of Bulma at the current moment instantly reminded the young man of something. Just subsequent to talking about the order that was bound to come to Gohan, Bulma had warned him of something. "Whatever you do...don't go too deep into the web. You might find some stuff you're not gonna like."
Gohan sat there for a couple seconds, staring at the screen, but more enveloped in his own personal thoughts. He was so excited and he wasn't even scratching the surface yet. He shrugged his shoulders. "What could be so bad?" Gohan tapped the keypad quite fast and did some extra clicks momentarily before being put into a dark screen.
Just then, a whole lot of images popped up. All of these images contained those of the very man he knew his whole life: Son Goku. One of Gohan's brow raised up high as he wasn't expecting this in the least.
He looked at the search bar and saw that words were typed in, words that weren't even typed in by himself.
"Worst father on father's day award goes to..."
And there, hundreds of pictures of Goku was shown.
Gohan was just staring with a blank look. Not once did he comprehend this, but things were for sure getting interesting, not in ways he had quite hoped, but this was all getting rather alluring. After clicking on a few images of Goku, he expanded onto different ones, pictures with actual texts.
"Whoah!" Gohan nearly bellowed. Looking at this picture, he saw a photo of a man that looked basically identical to Vegeta, for the exception that the man had on a full-blown goatee that made him appear all the more badass than the Vegeta he knew. At the top of that picture, a text was shown 'Take care of my son? That's Nappa's job.' Just below it was a picture of Son Goku with the same ole innocent smile he always had. 'Take care of my son? That's Piccolo's job.'
"What the hell...?" Gohan was amazed in itself that people even knew of Goku or Piccolo. This simply didn't make any sense. Gohan was somewhat reluctant to look forward to any more pictures, but his interest was through the roof.
Yet another one showed a picture of Gohan looking up proudly with a text saying 'That's right, hug him like he never hugged me.' While Goku was getting bear hugged by some monstrous looking Lorax with hands the size of a Giant's toe on Skyrim. Gohan slowly closed his eyes and shook his head. "This is stupid."
Yet, he still found himself looking at more. As Gohan passed through more and more pictures, the lower his mouth began to hang. All of it was unbelievable. There were such pictures implying that Piccolo was a better father to Gohan than Goku ever was. Gohan couldn't believe this and decided to do something else other than simply look at pictures.
The young man clicked on a link on the side of the picture that was titled 'Is Goku a bad father to Gohan?'
"Hmp." Gohan was a bit flustered, but he decided to entertain himself and click on the link to see what had to be said.
There was shown to be 11 answers with a picture of Raditz holding a crying little Gohan while Goku held his stomach in an obvious sincere amount of pain. Down below was written: very abbreviated timeline of the events in DBZ: Raditz kidnapped Gohan.
Then showed a picture of Piccolo holding Gohan.
Piccolo kidnapped, trained, then brought Gohan to battle the Saiyans.
Son was left absolutely flabbergasted. "How do people even know of such things? How do people get these pictures!?"
"Gohan?" Videl peeped her head from outside a corner, checking in on her husband. She had a deep look of concern, wondering if something happened to be agitating him. "Is something wrong?"
Gohan took a deep breath through his nose and gave a white lie. "No, hun. Everything's fine."
Videl's eyes narrowed slightly. She didn't buy it, but she figured it best not to further question it. "If you say so."
Gohan clicked out from the site, not even bothering to read through it further. He continued to look over these options. "Hm. Let's see what the videos have to say..."
There popped up a video with the exact title 'Is Goku a bad father?' With over 1 million views.
Gohan closed his eyes tightly for ten seconds prior to opening them up swiftly. He thought over if he should look over the video for a little while prior to making up his mind. He double-tapped on it and there an audio began to play.
"You know, Goku is such a terrible father. I mean, look at the way he saves Gohan so many times..."
Gohan got a good chuckle out of that sarcastic joke before he paused it. As much as he felt the video would be somewhat in his father's favor as to Goku actually being a good and loving dad, he didn't have time to listen to an analysis of if his father was or not. He knew the man better than most and already had the answer for himself. If anything, he wanted to check out more on the opinion of others.
Down into the comments, Gohan had gone. There, he saw many opinions from people scattered across the world. There were things said such as: yes, he rarely spent time with Gohan and was either dead or doing something else. He might love and care for Gohan, but he wasn't a good father imo.
"How would people know?" Gohan asked under his breath. He continued to read for a bit more.
"I think Goku giving Cell a Senzu Bean should have been another Bad Father Point."
"That's just stupid," Gohan said to himself.
"Hey, Gohan!" Videl came through the room, dressed up a bit more stylish than usual. Pan was just getting used to being up, yawning in her arms. "I'm about to head out. I made sure to feed her before I leave so you should be set for a few hours after I'm gone."
"That's fine, Videl." Gohan let Videl bring Pan over to him. He accepted his daughter kindly into his arms and sat her on his lap. She looked up at her dad and reached for his face. Gohan rubbed her hair as he looked over at his wife.
"I won't be too long, okay? And don't destroy anything while I'm gone."
Gohan looked to the side, a bit perplexed. "Why would I do such a thing? If anything, it's my dad and Vegeta you should be worried about."
Videl chuckled. "You're right. Be sure to keep a close eye out on them for me, okay?"
Gohan nodded. "Will do. Be safe out there, Videl."
"I may be a mother now, but I can still take care of myself, Gohan. Love you."
"Love you too, hun." Once the door behind Videl closed, it was now just Gohan and his beloved daughter Pan. He was somewhat confused. Just by what he saw these past few minutes, he couldn't believe people would see his father in such a bad light. Pan was giggling a bit as her dad continued to rub her hair. It was obvious she enjoyed it.
"Dada, dada..."
"You don't think I'm a bad father do you, Pan?"
"Hehehehe..." She just giggled.
"Heh." Gohan didn't know there could be a bigger joy in life until he had children of his own. He now understood why his mother was so overprotective of him when he was a youngster. He wouldn't want his daughter being put in the hectic scenarios he was coerced into as a young boy either. But he'd be lying if he said that he didn't grow as a person due to those experiences.
Gohan looked back into the computer, looking over more comments. Much to his surprise, there were actually people backing up Son Goku's side.
"Goku is a good father. If you've actually watched the series you would easily tell. The whole 'Goku is a shitty father' thing is just a meme. It was a joke made by fans, and it shouldn't be treated as fact."
"I can't even believe people know so much about us," Gohan mumbled under his breath. He glanced at his daughter. "No matter what we do, Pan, people are watching us. Heh!" Gohan then smiled. "No matter. As long as we know what we do is good, nobody can't blame us, right?"
Gohan looked over more videos and more comments on the same matter. There were arguments from every corner. People say Goku was bad as a father, some say he was good, others said he was okay, but Vegeta and Piccolo are better overall.
"I'm getting tired of this. It's about time I voice my own opinion." Gohan decided to put in a comment, though he was told that he'd have to make a profile prior to doing so. The man sighed. "Is this really necessary?"
Ding Dong!
"Hold up a moment." Gohan got up from the chair and neared the door of his home. Opening it, he and Pan got to see Krillin holding his little girl Marron in his arms.
"Hey, buddy!"
"Krillin," Gohan said excitedly. Seeing a familiar face like Krillin's put Gohan in a much better mood. "Videl told me you'd be here." He backed away, permitting Krillin entrance to his home. "Come on in."
Krillin looked around for a brief moment. "Man, you guys sure do live comfortably huh?"
Gohan chuckled as he sat back down in his seat. "Yeah, we do. I couldn't ask for anything better." Looking down, he could see that Pan was beginning to crawl from his lap. "Huh?"
"Looks like the little one wants to go free huh?" He put Marron down as well and let her run over to Pan. The two fathers watched as Marron grabbed Pan by the hands and began to slowly back up, helping Pan in her progress of walking.
"You know..." Krillin started. "You have a weird family."
Gohan looked over to Krillin. "Yeah? How so?"
"Well..." Krillin raised his finger. "I've been told that Goku's never been kissed and he's been married for Dende knows how long. That means Goku did the...ya know..." Krillin nodded his head.
"Yes, Krillin, I know."
"Exactly. Now that's just weird on Goku's part." Krillin raised another finger. "Goten learned to turn Super Saiyan before he could even fly."
Gohan chuckled. "Yeah, I remembered I told you that. I was surprised to find out, too."
"And..." Krillin motioned his head over to Pan, who was playing with Marron. "Your own daughter learned to fly before she can even walk." The bald martial artist juggled his hands. "You guys have to make up your mind, ya know. What really comes first?"
"Ahahaha..." Gohan chuckled while he scratched his head. He then stopped. "Wait..."
"Wassup?"
"What's weird about me, my mom, and my grandpa then?"
"Well, I can answer that last one for you. There is NOOOOOO way your grandpa should even remotely be as big as he is. He's not human, he just can't be. As for you and your mom..." not being able to find any words, Krillin just shrugged. "You two are about the only normal ones. Even that weird uncle of yours was downright odd. I can only imagine how weird your Saiyan side is."
"Hahaha..."
Krillin walked over to Gohan. "So what ya up to?"
"Oh, well nothin much." Gohan got back to his computer. "I was just about to make me a personal account on one of these sites so I can make a comment."
"Ahhh, that's the computer Bulma sent you, right?"
"Yep," Gohan said as he began to type away.
"Man. It's crazy how fast technology is growing now. We already had it good just a couple decades ago, but things are beginning to get out of hand."
Gohan scoffed. "You have no idea, Krillin..."
Ding Dong!
"Someone's here," Krillin said.
"It's Vegeta," Gohan answered. He felt out for the man's ki before the bell was even rung. It was all too obvious for him to simply ignore.
"I guess I'll go get it then," Krillin said. He walked over to the door and opened it. Before he stood Vegeta and Trunks, who was holding his little sister. "Hey, guys."
"Sup," Trunks said, just before bumping right past Krillin. "Yo, Gohan! What's good?"
"What's up, Trunks?" Gohan asked.
"Nothing much. Dad and I just celebrated a bit of father's day today."
"If you call not being able to go Super Saiyan 2 and getting your ass handed to you for it, then I guess it counts," Vegeta said as he walked past Krillin as well. He looked over Gohan and observed what he was doing. "Hm. You and Bulma are almost just alike. Having your faces in screens and books all day."
"What's so wrong about that?" Krillin asked. "He's getting smarter from it."
"Perhaps, but he's not getting stronger." Vegeta looked around the house. "Though it would only make sense since Kakarot isn't around to put you in check every now and then, aren't I right?"
Gohan just laughed. "Speaking of which, where is my dad?"
"Hell if I know," Vegeta said. "Knowing him, he probably got sidetracked. Wish he'd hurry up, though. He owes me a rematch."
"Yeah, about that. I don't know if we should even be fighting here. If it was up to me, I'd let you go at it, but Videl doesn't want any of our stuff ruined by chance that you guys go too far."
"Hn." Vegeta turned around and headed into the kitchen. "You got food in here?" he asked, opening up the fridge.
"Sure, have at it!"
"Right," Krillin walked into the kitchen. "We might as well anyway. We're going to be spending the entire day here."
"Hey, Goten's coming too, right?" Trunks asked.
"Well he should be with dad, so yeah," Gohan said.
"All right!" Trunks shouted out excitedly. He turned around and headed over to look over Pan and Marron. "Man, these two are getting big." He looked back to Gohan. "Does Pan know how to fight yet?"
"No, not yet," Gohan said.
"Juhst whegt thul Kakurote ghats haz hends unher," Vegeta said.
"What?" Everyone turned over to Vegeta, haven't understood a damn thing he had just said.
The Saiyan gulped down a mouthful of food and repeated himself subsequent to wiping his mouth. "Just wait until Kakarot gets his hands on her. She'll be a fighting machine before she can even speak normally."
"Why do I have a feeling Bulla might turn out the same way?" Krillin asked.
"Anyone with the blood of a Saiyan should fight," Vegeta answered.
Krillin sighed. "Really?"
"Yes," Vegeta said. "Really."
Gohan let Krillin and Vegeta speak over this topic for a bit more so he could finish creating his profile. He was truthful and put in his date of birth, showing he was 23 years of age. Getting to the final stages of his profile, he wondered what pictures to add onto it. Looking into his data, he noticed there wasn't any available. Gohan already knew what picture he wanted to put up, that one being of an old frame of him as a baby being in Goku's arms with Chi-Chi right by him. Though he couldn't upload it now, he could get to that later.
"You Saiyans are a handful," Krillin said, still speaking to Vegeta.
"I'm sure you earthlings would refer to such sayings as racism now these days, would you not?"
"I give up." Krillin fell over to the couch. "Goku needs to hurry up."
Vegeta headed back into the kitchen. "Trunks, if you want to eat, come get some food before I take it all."
The young boy's attention went over to his father as he immediately headed into the kitchen. "Okay, dad, don't be such a pig!"
"Today is my day boy, don't tell me what to do," Vegeta retorted.
As everyone in the house was busy, Gohan could get back to doing what he was before. He was back on this video site, being on the same exact video he was on moments ago. "Now..." Gohan began to type furiously.
The man was letting everything out into simple text being generated from a keyboard to a world of virtuality. Even though he was typing very fast, he had a lot to say. He typed for about a minute or so, just beginning to finish up.
DING DONG!
Gohan stopped in his tracks.
"He's here!" Krillin said, jumping from the couch. He was the first to the door and opened it right up.
"Yo!" Goku and Goten both waved.
"Dad!" Gohan rose up from his seat walked over to him and his little brother.
"Hey, Gohan!" He hopped up to hug his big brother for a brief moment before being put back down.
"It's good to see you came," Gohan said.
"Yeah, Goten and I got sidetracked," Goku said as he entered the house.
"Figures," Vegeta said as he and Trunks both drunk from a jug of milk.
Goku smirked when he saw his friend/rival. Not only were one of them here but two. "Krillin and Vegeta here, too, huh?" He looked around the place. "We might have some fun after all."
"The only thing that may be of fun to you guys would be eating and sparring," Krillin said.
"Exactly!" Goku said. "Guys, while we can, we should go have a little tournament outside. We can all fight and come back inside for a big feast." He looked over everyone. "Whadd'ya say?"
Vegeta grinned. "As long as I know I'll be able to get back at you, then I'm all game."
"I'm in!" Goten said, raising his hand up high.
"Yeah, me, too!" Trunks said, following Goten. As long as his friend was to join in on a friendly fight, he wasn't going to be left out.
Goku looked over to Gohan and Krillin, both of whom weren't raising their hands. "Hey, you guy not gonna join?"
"I have to look after Marron," Krillin said.
"And I have to look after Pan," Gohan said immediately after.
"Bullshit," Vegeta called out. "You just want to hop back in on that computer instead of attending a real Saiyan's challenge."
Goku just laughed. "Come on," Goten egged on in the back. "It'll be fun, Gohan!"
Goku bent over and picked up his grand-daughter. As soon as she lied eyes on him, she had the brightest smile in the room, second being her grandfather's. "How's my little pan doin'?" Goku asked in a semi-baby voice, lifting her up in the sky.
"Geeggegehhaha!" Pan laughed.
Goku held her in his arms, looking back to his eldest son. "Pan and Marron will be right outside watching us fight. They won't be going anywhere, you guys."
"We don't have a choice do we?" Krillin asked.
Trunks popped up from behind the couch, his mouth just near Krillin's ear. "Nope," he menacingly whispered.
"This is what happens when you're surrounded by nothing but battle-bred aliens," Krillin cried.
"I'll be outside," Vegeta said, heading towards the door.
"Alright, dad." Gohan pat Goku on the shoulders as he followed Goten, Trunks, and the others. "You asked for it."
Goku grinned. "Sure did." He then looked at Pan. "Didn't I, huh?" As he was trying to garner attention from Pan, he noticed that she was looking elsewhere. "Hm?" Goku looked over to where she looked and saw that her eyes were glued to the computer screen. "What's that?" Goku glanced behind him and saw everyone beginning to stretch. "I think we have time to read this, don't we, Pan?"
"Yeyeye!" Pan clapped.
"Hm..." Goku squinted his eyes and read all of what was typed.
"Now I don't know how you guys even know of our personal lives, but I won't bother to even ask questions. The main topic at hand is that you all assume whether my father is a good father or bad one, but none of you have even bothered to live one day in my shoes. Let me tell you something, SON GOKU IS A GOOD FATHER. Some of you may be shocked to see this, but it's true. From the day I was born to know, my dad has done his best by me. Sure, he's not the best guy in the world, but all his intentions are pure. Everything he does is for the betterment of himself and those around him, even if it sometimes puts us at risk. Him risking his life for me more than once should be enough. How is he bad for being dead for most of my teen years? He didn't want any harm to fall back on us. How about those years prior to my uncle showing up? You don't know how close my dad and I were. How about those three years we spent training to prepare for the androids? You don't know what we did together. I'll just let you in on a little secret and say it was the best time of my life. It doesn't matter if I'm fighting, camping, or even walking with my dad; because whatever we do is the best. He's an eccentric guy, I know, but he isn't human either. I mean that figuratively and literally. He has his flaws, but who doesn't? Son Goku is a man I can only dream of being half of and everyone else judging him should strive to be so as well. There may be better fathers, but that's all subjective. To me, Son Goku is the best father in the world. He's my dad and I'm proud of him. And for those who thi-"
Goku was taken aback. "He...didn't seem like he got to finish." Goku didn't know why, but he had the widest smile on earth.
"Dad, we're about to start soon. Come on."
Goku turned around, seeing Gohan was just right at the entrance of the door. He had a minor look of urgency on his face. Since the fight was finally about to begin, he wanted to get things going as quick as possible.
Gohan looked at his dad and saw that Goku was having the hardest time to hide that big smile. He surprisingly even noted that he was trying to hold back some tears. Without a doubt, he read all of what he typed.
"D-Dad...about that..."
"No need to explain, son." Goku neared Gohan and placed his arms around his eldest's shoulders. "I'm proud of you."
Hearing those words would brighten any boy's world up, especially coming from their own dad. It opened doors and set pathways for kids. It didn't matter how old Gohan was, the feeling of hearing it never went away. And it being refreshed in this exact moment just made the effect ten times bigger than what it had to be.
"Happy father's day, dad. I love you."
"I love you too, son." Goku wiped his face and patted his son on the back as he headed outside. He looked behind himself at Gohan with a big smirk, Pan cheesing at him as well.
"Now let's fight!"
This idea of a one-shot occurred to me as I was playing a game earlier today. It almost slipped my mind that it was father's day and well, this is what I came up with. I hope some of you liked it. Be sure to leave a Review. Enjoy the rest of the day/night.
