Star flopped down onto her bed. She sighed defeatedly and closed her eyes, her arms and legs outstretched on the covers.
What am I doing? She asked herself, why do I feel like this?
She opened her eyes to stare at the ceiling. By now she knew every detail of it, every crack and crevice, as ceiling-staring had recently become something of a habit for her. Whenever that feeling would rear its ugly head, that strange feeling she just couldn't quite place, she would retreat to her room, stare at the ceiling, and try to name it. She hadn't succeeded yet.
Her eyes traced a familiar pattern on the textured drywall above her. She tried to remember every time she had gotten the feeling since it had first started about a month ago. The night of the clown seance, the concert...
She gasped. She realized that each time she had come home feeling like this, angry yet somehow simultaneously sad, Marco had been there.
And then it dawned on her. It wasn't just Marco that was there each time, but Jackie as well. Jackie as in Jackie Lynn Thomas, Marco's girlfriend.
She sat upright, struggling to wrap her head around this new idea.
No way... could it really be that I'm... jealous?
She didn't think she liked Marco like that. In fact, she had even helped pair him with Jackie! No, she couldn't have a crush on him, that wouldn't make any sense. Well yeah, she found him cute, and he was always very kind, and he always had her back, and she loved the way he smiled to show he believed in her, and the little mole under his right eye-
She caught herself before she could go on.
Oh no... I really do like him...
She groaned in frustration, grabbing fistfuls of her hair as she fell back down to the bed. Is that what that feeling was, this whole time?
This whole time, it was jealousy?
