A/N: hi. This is my first Kagome/Kouga story so please be nice. I don't know what else to say, so please read and enjoy.

Disclaimer: I do not own Inuyasha. Though I wish I owned Sesshomoru and Kouga (drools).

Her Heart

I still remember the first time I saw her. When she stood by him. I remember the light that shone in her eyes, the determination and courage that lit up her radiant features.

I remember how she stood up to me. She risked her life to save the small fox demon that she considered her own son.

I knew from then that she was different. That she was special. I loved her, and I was determined that one day she would feel the same.

I visited her many times while she traveled with him. Each time I did he got jealous. Even though her heart belonged to him.

But then one night, I caught her scent. Only her scent. That damn mutt had left her alone and unprotected. Did he want her to get killed?

When I reached her, I saw her sitting on a log. Crying.

I looked at her tear streaked face in shock. This wasn't the Kagome I knew. Where was the light in her eyes? These dull brown eyes did not belong to my woman. Where was the courage and determination? Why did she look so broken?

I didn't know why she was crying, and right now I didn't need to. All I needed was to see her happy. To see the light. I cradled her petite form through the night, trying to make the pain go away.

As dawn approached, she pulled away, whispering a quick thank you before disappearing into the trees.

I followed her back to her camp and watched her through the day. I watched as she talked to her friends as though nothing was wrong. She even talked to him. Even after he had chosen another.

I watched the hurt show briefly on her face each time he held another woman's hand or kissed her. The only one that noticed something was wrong was the small kitsune. He looked at her with worried eyes every time she flinched, every time she fought back tears.

That night, she came to the clearing and cried into my shoulder once more. I held her through the night. She fell asleep in my arms that night and woke up early in the morning to return to her friends.

I saw her every night after that, and I held her as she cried. Some nights, she fell asleep in my arms, and each morning she would run back to her friends and act as though it was all fine.

Then one night, she told me what had happened.

He had broken her heart. He had left her for a dead woman.

That filthy mutt had taken the light from her eyes. He had broken her spirit.

Then one night when she came she was different. She wasn't crying and there was a look of determination upon her face.

That night she said she wasn't going to cry over him any more. He didn't deserve her tears.

"I would never leave you," I whispered in her ear as she left.

"I know," she whispered, kissing me lightly on the cheek.

Each time we met, she got happier. The light slowly returned to her eyes. The light that went out when he left her.

Then the night came when we shared our first kiss. It was then she asked me to take her away, to let her come and live with my tribe.

We went back to her friends and collected her bag. The small kitsune jumped into her arms and I took her in mine. Then we sped away from the shocked faces of her friends. Away from him.

A/N: well I hope you liked it. Here comes the part where you review and tell me what you thought.
