But when the plan messes up, the girls start uncovering a whole web of lies and deciet. Can their friendship hold up as they discover a secret that no one knew; a secret that could very well destroy them? Time to find out; let's roll!
Twilight (prolouge)
Pounding footsteps.
A racing heartbeat.
Ice cold rain.
Strong arms wrapped around her; but they didn't feel right. Squirming, the baby started to whimper as her fear took a tighter grip on her. Too young to really understand, she knew one thing: Whoever this was, it wasn't her mother or father.
The cloaked figure seemed to realize that she was starting to fuss. Before she started squalling, she heard a soft, incoherent mumble; then, she felt herself growing sleepier, and sleepier. On the brink of twilight, a faint sound echoed through the dark night: It sounded like a women wailing, far off in the distance. But her tired eyes drooped shut, as the child disappeared into the darkness of slumber.
A sharp jolt waking her, the baby gave an indignant squeek; the person holding her had just set her down rather hard. Glaring at him as well as she could through her still sleepy eyes, the toddler started chewing him out; too bad he couldn't understand her.
The figure finally took off his hood; staring up into the dark face, the child started whimpering again as she saw those cold, ruthless blue eyes glaring at her from a pale, fine boned face. If it wasn't enough that the man staring at her wasn't her father, the little girl became absolutely terrified when she heard a voice in her mind, You're his heir? Interesting; interesting in deed. Confusion and fear tearing at her, the little girl started howling.
Seeming to be brought because of her distressed cries, the baby could faintly hear pounding footsteps coming closer. The man gave her one last emotionless glance as she heard his voice in her mind again, It matters not what happens now; the wheels have been set into motion. Soon, my revenge will be had.
Spinning around, he seemed to disappear just as an angry shout sounded behind her. Trying in vain to climb onto shaking limbs, the not quite three year-old sent a terrified look at the new arrival as he drew closer.
Noting the girl's distress, he slowed, then crouched down to her level once he reached her. Speaking in a soft, soothing voice, he held out his arms for her, not even thinking to take her by force. Her fear leaving in slow degrees, she raised shaky limbs; instantly, she was scooped up and cradled gently in his arms. Looking up at him, her eyes were drawn to bright red hair he continued in that same soothing tone as he started moving.
Between his voice and the gentle ryhthm of his walk, the little girl found herself nodding off again. Closing her eyes, she curled one of her small hands over a heart-shaped locket that hung around her throat. Before falling asleep, she could just hear him saying, "It's okay, little one; everything's going to be okay, my Vixen."
Vixen: Okay, please leave a review! And if you see something that could be improved, please, don't be afraid to point it out; I don't mind constructive critisicm; that's why I'm taking a course in writing! Now, goodnight!
