So, I was reading some cute stories by Annie_Sparklecakes when this thought child was born. Literally typed it up half an hour ago. No proof-reading, so if you happen across any mistakes (grammatically or spelling-wise) just let me know and I'll fix it. :) Hope you enjoy.
One of Neji's favorite things to do on hot, lazy summer afternoons was to sit outside in an unoccupied training area and just relax. Training day in and day out with Team Gai tends to have a draining effect on anyone's patience (not to mention sanity).
It was on one of these such days that Tenten, equally fatigued by the constant energy the other two members of her team shot out in beams of rainbows and youth, decided to join her more taciturn teammate.
Without so much as a 'how do you do', she unceremoniously sat herself next to Neji and flopped backwards, spreading her arms and legs out into the grass and closing her eyes.
Neji glanced at her.
"Hope you don't mind, Neji," she said drowsily. "Those two sure take a lot outta you."
"Hm," he agreed most elegantly.
A few long moments passed, while Neji returned his opalescent eyes to the clouds, watching the white masses shift and combine and break apart.
Tenten snuck a peek at his face after a while, and upon seeing the slight furrow between his dark brows and the straight line of his lips, she concluded that he was thinking about something very important and profound, because he was a genius and a prodigy, so he had to be thinking of something very deep like that. Maybe he was thinking of a new jutsu he could try to create, or maybe…
"How do I go about asking someone out?" he asked, completely serious. He turned himself to face the prone girl fully, legs crossed and eyes focused solely on hers.
Her eyes widened. The Neji Hyuuga was asking her how to pick up a girlfriend?
"Uh," she answered, stunned.
He just waited for her to gather her wits. Of course he understood how completely out-of-character he was being by even thinking about such a thing, but he needed to know what to do.
"W-well," Tenten began, slowly beginning to pull herself together. "I guess, if I were the one being asked out, I'd want the guy to just tell me straight up that he liked me-"
"I like you," Neji stated, face completely serious.
"Yeah, like that. And then… wait, what? You… you're practicing, right?"
Neji blinked. "No, I like you."
Tenten stared, thinking this had to be too good to be true. "Um…"
"What next?" he asked. "What would I do after saying that I like you?"
"Uh, well, I'm not really sure? I guess, I would want whoever was asking me to, I dunno… take my han-"
Neji grabbed her hand. "Like this?"
Tenten gulped. "Y-yeah…"
"Then what?"
Deep breaths, she thought to herself. "I think, then I would want whoever was asking me to, um, to k-kiss-"
Tenten never thought she would be one to swoon, but one kiss from Neji left her halfway to Heaven.
Neji decided that his other favorite thing to do on hot, lazy summer afternoons was kissing his new girlfriend.
Review! lol This was my first NejixTenten fic, ever. Never even read anything with them as a pairing, so this is totally new to me. Though, I am kind of fond of NejixTen artwork over on deviantART...
