All characters unfortunately belong to CBS and not me. Cause if they did, Danny and Lindsay would not have to have this conversation. They would be living happily ever after. (I have been watching too much Enchanted, but I love it.)
Lindsay walked into her apartment and threw her keys on the counter. She had just left work. She didn't say goodbye to Danny or anyone. She sat down on the couch and couldn't help but think about how Danny had forgotten her birthday. Lindsay knew he has been under stress from losing Ruben, but it still hurt her. Things had been good between them. And then Ruben…and Rikki. Lindsay knew he felt guilty. She knew he just wanted to help her. She just hoped that nothing would happen between them. It would break her. She leaned back and closed her eyes.
A half hour later, Lindsay awoke to someone knocking on her door. When she opened it, she wasn't surprised to see Danny standing there. "Hey, Linds." Danny said. "Can I come in?" She had given him a key, but under the circumstances, he didn't dare use it.
Lindsay just turned and walked back towards the couch. Danny could see in her eyes she was hurting. "Linds. Montana. I'm sorry, okay. I honestly didn't mean to forget your birthday. I just…I am in a bad place right now. I feel guilt, I feel pain, I should have done something. I should have taken care of him. I'm sorry I have been a jerk. I just don't know what to do."
Lindsay turned and faced him. "You could talk to ME, Danny. I of all people know what you are going through! I lost my best friends. Every day I think of what I could have done to save them. The hurt is always gonna be there Danny. "He just stood there. "But you can't shut me out! I am here for you. I could have helped you. I can still help you. I can listen. I can just hold you when you are upset. "
Danny reached out to her and she let him take her hand. Tears had started to fall from both their eyes.
Lindsay spoke first. "Damn it Danny. I've fallen in love with you. Can't you see that?"
He pulled her into a hug. He held her tight and kissed the top of her head. "You know that you are really something Montana. I have been the biggest jerk to you and yet you can still love me."
Lindsay pulled back and looked into his eyes, looking for his reaction.
Danny smiled. "I never thought it would take a country girl to make me fall in love."
"You aren't just saying that, cause you feel guilty for something are you?"
"Lindsay, I swear, nothing has happened or is going to happen with me and Rikki. I promise you." The look in his eyes told her he was telling the truth.
"I believe you. And I do trust you. I just got scared."
"You don't have to be scared anymore. Cause I'm gonna take care of you."
She hugged him this time. And she knew from the way he held her, that he was serious.
