Simba walked away from Nala. She couldn't tell him what to do…She couldn't just show up and tell him to go home. Simba walked into a grassy field. He looked up at the moon and the stars. The moon was now covered by clouds. The stars no longer twinkled. It was dark…just like the space in his heart.
---
Where has the starlight gone?
Dark is the day
How can I find my way home?
Home is an empty dream
Lost to the night
Father, I feel so alone…
---
Simba replayed that horrible day in his mind. The stampede…the hooves… the cliff…the trampled body…the body that was trampled because of him…
---
You promised you'd be there
Whenever I needed you
Whenever I call your name
You're not anywhere
I'm trying to hold on
Just waiting to hear your voice
One word, just a word will do
To end this nightmare…
---
Simba turned to the cloud covered moon, watching the clouds roll in the sky. The clouds reminded him of the rolling hooves of the wildrebeest, and he turned away quickly, running out of the field. He walked onto a log.
---
When will the dawning break?
Oh endless night
Sleepless I dream of the day
When you were by my side
Guiding my path
Father, I can't find the way
---
He laid down on the log, his tail twitching back and forth. He looked down at his reflection, one that he could barely see because of the clouded moon. In the pond he could see his father's limp body. He shut his eyes tightly.
---
You promised you'd be there
Whenever I needed you
Whenever I call your name
You're not anywhere
I'm trying to hold on
Just waiting to hear your voice
One word, just a word will do
To end this nightmare
---
Tears fell down Simba's face, and into his mane. Tears that had been held back for so long. Tears of pain, and sorrow. Tears of regret for what he had done. Now, as he cried, a voice called out to him from inside his heart and his mind.
---
I know that the night must end
And that the sun will rise
And that the sun will rise
I know that the clouds must clear
And that the sun will shine
And that the sun will shine
---
Simba thought about it, then opened his eyes. The reflections of death were gone, replaced by the clear reflection of the moon. He looked up and saw the clouds were gone, and the moon was shining, and the stars were sparkling. Tears of joy now fell down his face.
---
I know that the night must end
And that the sun will rise
And that the sun will rise
I know that the clouds must clear
And that the sun will shine
And that the sun will shine
---
He jumped up and ran into the fields. The grasses swayed, and the moonlight reflected off the dew. The sun was beginning to show over the hills.
---
I know
Yes, I know
The sun will rise
Yes, I know
I know
The clouds must clear
I know that the night must end
I know that the sun will rise
And I'll hear your voice deep inside
I know that the night must end
And that the clouds must clear
---
Simba ran towards the sun. He knew where he was going. He was going home.
---
The sun
The sun will rise
The sun
The sun will rise…
