This is an AU set before Shadowdance. Also, the events of Joyride never
happened.
Disclaimer: If I owned X-Men no one would have left and Kitty would be a much better driver and cook, so therefore, I don't own X-Men.

The Birth of Specter
By Realm9
Prologue
The night in Bayville was unusually dark. It felt like the darkness was so tangible you could just reach out and grab it. Or at least that's how it felt to a young female resident of the Xavier Institute for Gifted Youngsters. And it was giving her the creeps.
"It's almost like there's something out there." She shook her head. "It must be my imagination." With that she went to bed.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Lookout point~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Three figures stand on the cliff overlooking Bayville. It can be seen that they are teens, one boy and two girls. They are dressed entirely in black; however, their faces are immersed in the shadows. Suddenly, the boy clenches his fists.
"She's here. I can feel it." He said in a voice that seemed to demand respect, but the girls with him seemed unaffected. The girl on his right turned to him.
"So, what are we waiting for, Realm? Let's get down there and find her!" Her voice seemed saturated with exuberance and energy. As she moved to head down the cliff, a gloved hand rested on her shoulder. She looked back to see the other girl standing directly behind her.
"Not so fast Whiplash," she started, "We cannot afford to be too hasty." Her voice seemed as tranquil as a babbling brook, yet as powerful as a raging river.
"But..." Whiplash protested, her tail whipping around agitatedly.
"No buts." Realm interrupted her. "Sage is right. I feel several very powerful individuals in the area. It wouldn't be too smart to risk angering them. As for our search, she most likely goes to the local High School, so we'll begin there."
"School!?" Whiplash pouted. "But... Oh, never mind, I'll go, as long as there are cute boys."
Realm and Sage sighed. "You're impossible." Realm commented.
"I know" Whiplash grinned.
Sage shook her head. "Well," she started, "we'll need our rest for tomorrow, so let's go home."
Sage and Whiplash put their hands on Realm's shoulders as he looked back at Bayville. 'I will find you,' he thought, 'no matter what it takes.' With that there was a flash of golden light, and all three were gone.
