Finally got time to write a story...hopefully next one won't have you guys waiting as long as this one
"I told Tenten that if she didn't want any, then she could have just –"
The blonde's idle chat was interrupted by her company's yawn.
"Oh I'm sorry, am I boring you?"
Shikamaru pondered on whether or not he would make the smart answer, or the smart-ass answer.
"Yes."
A flick to the forehead, but it was worth it.
"Maybe that'll wake you up too," Temari said with slight annoyance, watching him rub his head.
"So I'm a little tired, what do you expect from the laziest guy in town when you keep him up 'til 5 30 in the morning. Troublesome woman."
"So now you think this is a stupid idea?"
He knew better than to go for two in a row. "Of course not, woman. I'm just tired."
she rolled her eyes. "All that 'being a man' talk and you can't even pull an all nighter. Frankly, you should be ashamed of yourself."
Shikamaru scratched his head, before leaning his head back onto the tree trunk. Looking into the horizon, stars still littered the sky, though the darkness that was night showed signs of being faded away.
"Not that I can't, woman. I choose not to."
She chuckled, before leaning her head on his shoulder. "Well choose to stay up then, idiot."
He smirked. "What, you think I'm not?"
They stayed like that, silent for a while.
"How about we play a game?"
Shikamaru didn't stop looking at the scene, another star fading into the light. "Either we watch the sunrise, or we play a game. Your call."
"Fine." She moved positions, trying to find a more comfortable one. Eventually she did. The same one as before.
"Restless, aren't we?" Shikamaru remarked as a slightly lighter shade of blue emerged from the top of the hills ahead. "Trying to keep yourself awake?"
Temari tried to hide her yawn, but failed. "I'm not like you," she replied in a lazy manner.
"I'm sure."
"Have you ever watched the sunset? Aside from before you left for a mission?"
"6 o'clock is 6 hours too early to be awake, woman."
She didn't reply for a few moments. "It's one of my earlier memories. Back before my mother died. Couldn't have been more than two, three years old."
"Have you often done it since?"
"Nah, it would have been boring to do it by myself, wouldn't it?"
He chuckled. "Don't go sappy on me, woman. It's scarier than your usual self."
She nudged his stomach. When satisfied with his pain, she shuffled closer, and stayed that way.
They didn't move, but watched, until the only stars left would have been well behind them. The sky, brighter now and showing the first tints of orange and yellow.
"This better be worth keeping me up all night, you troublesome wom–"
He looked at his shoulder, seeing her eyes closed and her chest raising slowly. Only a couple of minutes from sunrise, and she had given up.
Shikamaru smiled, leaning his head on hers.
"Troublesome girl," he said, before closing his eyes too.
"Guess we can watch the sunrise another time."
End.
