"That's what you wanted, isn't it?"
In a short phrase, her world came down on her. She felt her heart shatter, into a tiny million pieces. Just like that portal that shattered, that Jace cared for so much, now she realized why he carried it. She knew now, that parting with it is too difficult.
"Yes, that's what I wanted."
She never wanted that. She wanted his blood to be different from hers. She wanted her love to be a sisterly love towards him. She wanted to not love him at all perhaps. So that she had time to mold the love into a sisterly affection.
But no, that is impossible. Staring into the face of the boy she loved, she couldn't help but feel what Luke felt. That love that cannot be returned, the love that will always and forever still stay with Jace. Because she did not choose to love Jace, and Jace did not choose her. Fate had chosen their destiny.
She put on a brave face just for Jace. As soon as he left, she broke down crying. Not the ive-just-been-dumped crying. More like the type of crying that happened when you lost someone you loved to death. She understood now, she understood why Luke stuck around for so long.
Luke gave his heart away, but he could not live without her. He loved her in a different scene, but he took any role she offered. Because he needed her like a heartbeat. Because he gave his whole soul and being to her. Because being away from her is like being dead. Luke had given away his heart long ago.
In true father and daughter sense, they had both given their hearts away to the wrong person. And that grave mistake will carry on through the family. Because it is the only thing that is truly timeless when it came to the Frays.
