Truly Spoken
Summary: Cedric learns something new about Sofia during one of their lessons.
Disclaimer: I don't own the show or the languages represented here, but I do speak them. ;)
A/N: Well… I've given this thought for a while. I believe Sofia probably does have a secondary language she doesn't use very often. Besides, originally, she was depicted as a "Latina," though that kind of fell by the wayside. However, I wouldn't put it past her to know at least a bit of another language. She's smart, after all. Honestly, I really just wanted to watch Cedric's mouth drop when Sofia starts speaking something other than English (or Latin on occasion). :D
"When is the last time you updated your book collection, Mr. Cedric?" Sofia asked curiously as she thumbed through one of his works on the benefits of herbs.
"Probably when I first started this job," he responded distractedly as he poured some liquids into the cauldron as he looked toward an ingredient sheet. "Did we get any foxglove when we were in the garden last week?"
"You put it in the cabinet." She placed the book onto the shelf again and moved over to the aforementioned cabinet. Her face formed a frown as she realized she was too short to reach the necessary one. Thinking fast, she grabbed his rolling stool and steadied it before climbing up and opening the tiny door. She withdrew the box with the necessary plant and jumped to the floor before handing the box to Cedric. "I can't wait until I grow taller."
Cedric chuckled and opened the box, withdrawing the flowers and tossing them into the mixture. "Enjoy your youth while you can. One of these days, you will be able to reach things, and then everyone's going to want you to reach for them. It's a hassle, I tell you."
Sofia giggled and pushed the stool away as she watched him. She smiled as the liquid within the cauldron began to turn a gradient form of purple, turquoise, and gold. "Qué hermosa…"
"Hmm?" Cedric grabbed a large wooden stick and started to stir the potion.
"La poción es hermosa," she told him with a grin, realizing he was starting to catch on. "Y usted no me entiende… Verdad, ¿Señor Cedric?" (For non-Spanish speakers: "The potion is beautiful. And you don't understand me… Right, Mr. Cedric?")
The sorcerer blinked at his apprentice with his mouth dropping open. "Sofia…what?" It clicked in his mind. "You speak Spanish?"
"A little bit," she admitted with a laugh. "You didn't know that?"
"Well, it…never came up before." He shook his head and looked back at the potion.
She walked to the other side of the table and climbed onto her chair. "My mom taught me when I was little. She's actually fluent. One day I hope I am too!" She picked up her training wand and waved it around. "And with you teaching me, I'll also be fluent in 'magic.'"
"Some people call it Latin," Cedric joked with a smirk toward her as he finished off his potion. "Okay, it's ready." He placed the stick into a corner of the room before grabbing a ladle and pouring the mixture into several vials. "You mustn't touch this potion, Sofia. It can be highly dangerous if handled improperly."
Sofia blinked and tilted her head. "What does it do?"
He eyed her seriously. "It poisons you if you drink it, but if used with medical intentions and in the correct way, it can also heal…" He pointed at one of the opened books on the table. "Chapter 15."
She nodded, somewhat unnerved about a potion that could harm and save at the same time…
After he finished storing the potion vials away, Cedric cleaned off his hands for safety and replaced his gloves. He then handed Sofia a small basket with some cookies inside. "Here you are," he said with a smile to alleviate her nerves. He knew the potion would bother her a little bit, so he'd already prepared a 'remedy' of sorts.
The princess brightened and took one of the cookies. "Gracias, Mr. Cedric." She giggled as he rolled his eyes.
"You're welcome, Sofia. Now, onto our lesson for the day." He wielded his wand and grinned. "Instant replenishment of any item."
The end
A/N: Am I the ONLY one who'd love to have that last spell mentioned? Run out of Doritos? NOPE! Instant Replenishment offers even MORE Doritos than you thought possible! And it can be yours for a low, low price of $19.99! …Forgive me. I had way too much caffeine and sugar today. :D Until next time! ~AquaTurquoise
CedricAmber: You know, I guess "Kingly" would qualify for the "twinship" story she was looking for. Lol. I like to think that James would step up to help out Amber if she were actually in danger. And let's face it: being royalty, it's bound to happen sooner or later…you know, again. :p And now I am actually planning a follow-up to "Kingly," but there are no details yet, which is weird for me. Lol. I do know I'm going to have to bring back the "bad guys" and possibly that necklace, but I don't know. It's a jumble right now. :) AND a clown waved at you?! Oh, no! Haha. I get it completely. "A Royal Mess" is actually how I'd describe the circus yesterday, actually. Haha! And yes, my sister was strong as a kid. Scary strong. A three-year-old knocked down a door? O.o… WOW! Look out! Lol! Have a good day! ;) ¡Adiós!
