Your Bitter Heart

Summary: Drabble. Life's hard, when your home has always thought of you as a psycho and looked down on you. But Tritannus won't let that stop him. They will all appreciate him. Eventually.

Genre: General

Rating: K plus.

Disclaimer: Someone needs to pull Tritannus off to the side and tell him it doesn't matter what his father thinks, he isn't worthless.

Other: SPOILERS FOR SEASON 5. You have been warned.

It felt good to be appreciated.

It really, really, did. No one understood that darkness did not have to make one evil, that being quiet was not a sign that one always brooded. That introversion was no more a bad thing than overzealous extroversion.

His father had never understood him, and though his mother had tried, there was little she could do to assuage his father's wrath. Nothing he had done had ever been good enough.

His only mistake had been attacking Nereus when his father was more deserving of his anger. Neptune had never understood him. Had never tried. At least Nereus appreciated him.

"Nothing I ever did was good enough for him." He growled.

"What was that?" The pale, white-haired witch lying next to him in the seaweed hammock asked.

"Nothing." He returned moodily. "Forget I ever said anything."

She leaned up to kiss him on the cheek, the air spell around her tickling him with its magic. "Whatever you say, my prince."

Mollified, he curled his long tail up around her legs and buried himself deeper in the headrest. It was good to be appreciated. Icy had eyes only for him, and she appreciated him, and maybe even loved him.

Nereus and Tressa and his mother had loved him, but he was never certain his father had. When it had come time for Neptune to name a successor, there had been no discussion, no reason given for why Nereus was being chosen.

Sometimes, he thought he wouldn't mind it so much if his father had at least acknowledged him.

But such thoughts were wasteful and useless now. With the power of the toxins he could find in the sea, and the ones that Icy would find and bring to him (and surely that was proof that she cared about him, wasn't it? That she would help him gain power like this) he would be unstoppable. Invincible.

And even his father would be forced to acknowledge him. He would be as good a king as Nereus. Better, even, for being able to understand that not all who were dark and quiet were evil.

Yes, soon there would be no way for Neptune to ignore him.

He would rule not only the oceans of Andros, but the oceans of the whole magical dimension.

With that pleased thought to soothe him, he curled up by the witch and drifted off into sleep, wondering as he did whether or not she would look good as a mermaid.

She, at least, appreciated him.

T.A.R.N.S.: Season 5. At four episodes in, it leaves a lot to be desired. Sky is a bumbling idiot. King Neptune is irrational. And we only know Tritannus is crazy and uncool because Aisha said it and the two girls in the palace dissed him. I was glad to see, though, that his mother and brother still stood beside him in episode 4 and wanted to repair the family rift. Good for them. Nick is carrying on about going green/save the Earth, but with Tritannus' tendency toward toxins, I'm expecting a 'drugs are bad' Aesop too.

I feel bad for Tritannus. I think his father neither appreciates nor understands him. Icy is crushing on him, which is kind of cute in an evil-villain-love kind of way. We're early in the season so it may get better, but I don't know.

At any rate, please drop a review and let me know what you thought. I love feedback.
