Can you believe it? Me, writing a one-shot? This is absurdity! Madness!
-no!
This. is. FANFICTION!
"She sounds awfully normal to me." George the Ogre decided, taking slight offense to the fact that he, as a personal assistant, had to be joined by a secretary. It just wasn't necessary, he believed. After all, he was here to do anything Koenma need, even handling the prince's scheduling himself at times. Even when the young prince was a baby George was there, helping his master out with things. Like fetching his toys, taking him for a stroll, or if he was feeling particularly daring, helping the maid change a diaper or two. Yes indeed, to him, there was absolutely no need for a secretary.
"That's the point, Ogre. We need someone relatively normal around here, and having someone to help me schedule a few things wouldn't be a bad change." Koenma argued, ever persistent. He had wanted a secretary for years now, and without one was left to his Ogre's poor time keeping abilities. Perhaps, he thought with a large amount of hope, they would even be able to help control the amount of papers he needed to sign!
"B-but Koenma, sir! I help you with scheduling all the time!" George protested, feeling personally offended. This just wasn't fair!
"Only to forget the appointments you schedule." Koenma finalized in a snippy tone, attempting to clear his desk to seem as professional as possible in front of his new worker. She'd be arriving back from the background check any minute now, after all. And so they waited in silence.
George shifted, and then more silence.
Koenma took a deep breath, beginning to feel the hope rising from the bottom of his stomach as he silently envisioned a better future for himself, one without all the paperwork.
Another three minutes of silence ensued, with Koenma staring out into his own happy world, one where he never had to stamp a paper again. George glanced to him occasionally, worrying for the prince. What if this secretary was an assassin in disguise, and they somehow made it past the background check? What if, God forbid, the secretary screwed up the meeting schedule, sending the Spirit World into a financial crisis that so negatively affected the human world nobody ever recovered? What if she carried a deadly virus that wiped out every person in sight with some horrific disease? What if her coming set off a spark of fate that ending up dooming all three world's existence?
George gulped as a buzz came from the other side of the door, Ayame alerting them that they were about to enter. He couldn't help the sheer sweat that broke out onto his forehead, or the way his legs started to shake as the door started to slid open, revealing Ayame and a rather plain looking Japanese young woman. In fact, he even froze in fear when the girl bowed, introducing herself in a, and he was sure of it, fake polite manner.
Whether a result of the girl's very presence or his own hyperventilation, nobody knew, but everything went black for George as he feinted to the ground.
