Yellow Flowers
By e-pony
A fragile crystal shatters
Into fragments of a dream.
The future falls in tatters,
Sundered by a silent scream.
The truth is all that matters,
But it's seldom what we deem.
Can't you see what lies ahead?
Yellow flowers for the dead.

One son sleeps beneath the ground;
Another soon will follow.
Though your answers may be found,
Victory will be hollow.
The clock cannot be rewound,
And grief is hard to swallow.
So, heed the words I have said:
"Yellow flowers for the dead."

Star-lights hover in the haze
Within my inner vision.
Future's path runs straight, or strays,
Directed by decision.
The road curves in deadly ways,
Observed without precision.
Still, I see it in my head:
Yellow flowers for the dead.

The heart may have its own sight,
In the faithful and the wise,
That's guided by a clearer light;
So, truth may yet surprise.
The seer isn't always right,
And tears slip from my eyes,
Over what I see instead:
Yellow flowers by his bed.
