A Jily fic:) based off 'Sarah Smiles' by Panic! At the Disco.
He was just a young wizard, living in a cheap apartment in muggle London, near Diagon Alley. He was doing just fine, he'd tell you, but you could tell that he was broken, what with the war, losing his parents, and the fact that his 'one true love' - Lily Evans - won't give him the time of day. Well, he doesn't know that for sure, seeing as he's only seen her fleetingly since they left Hogwarts. He understands she's busy, but they're friends - right? -and friends are supposed to make time to see other friends, right?
Then, one day, SHE called, and changed his life. The apple of his eye, the diamond in the rough, Lily Evans.
"James, sorry for springing this on you, but can I room with you? I need a place to stay..."
Needless to say, he let her in that night. He couldn't stop staring at her velvet lips, and her sparkling emerald eyes kept pulling him in, he couldn't concentrate on anything she said. She was flirting, though he barely noticed. Well, they both knew she would already win at that game.
They woke up the next morning next to each other, reminiscing in the previous night. Abruptly, Lily got up, kissed him briefly, got dressed and left. Order buisness, she said. Of course. Well, he had better things to do than wait for her to get back, as she had better things to do than stay in bed with him.
She fooled him many a time with her eyes. She fooled him many a time with those lies about how she would NEVER date him. That he was arrogant, and a bullying toerag.
Later that night, she got back, smiling widely when James pulled her into a passionate kiss. She smiled like she doesn't care, like she's in her own world where there is no war. She knew their destinies were intertwined. Lily is saving James.
If you asked him now, James would say he's doing absolutely magnificently, you can tell he's being honest, that he's whole again, not the broken young man he used to be. Of course, he's not the same, but he's been pieced back together differently. Lily Evans saved James Potter.
'Velvet lips and the eyes to pull me in,
we both know you'd already win,
oh, your original sin.
You fooled me once with your eyes now, honey,
you fooled me twice with you lies, and I say...'
