"Daddy, hey daddy!" the boy cried for his father. Yugi heard his cries and rushed to meet his son "What's wrong?" he asked rubbing his son's head. "Dad what's this? I found it in the old room." The boy holds a small box to his chest, no bigger than both of his fists. "It's probably another prank" thought Yugi; his son had a habit to pull pranks on people. But when the boy handed the box to his father, Yugi could see in his eyes something he wouldn't normally see, truth.
Yugi opened the small, but fragile box only to find something he's been missing for many years. It was his old Duel Monsters deck. "How could I have missed this?" Yugi thought to himself.
All of the sudden he finds himself running through his memories. Memories of his duels, his friends and more importantly, Atem. "We built this deck together, how could I have abandoned it, abandoned you?"
"Dad, are-are you alright?" asked the boy.
Yugi hadn't noticed that a tear had fallen from his still, almost child-like face. "Yeah, I'm fine" Yugi says wiping away his tears.
"Do you know what these are, my son?" Yugi asked, handing the boy the deck. He studies the deck and brushes some dust off of the top of the cards.
"Oh. Isn't this your old Duel Monsters deck?"
Yugi nods, thinking to Duelist Kingdom, Battle City, and the KC Grand Prix, all of which he has fought and won with this mighty deck. But something was missing now, his closest friend in the world, the part that left him years ago. Yugi goes to clutch the chain of the Millennium Puzzle to be able to cling to Atem for support, only to find that he's gone. "He left years ago..." Yugi tells himself.
Yugi comes back to reality only to find the boy sorting through all of the cards, trying to find something of worth to help his own deck. Yugi watches his son's youthful and gentle hands as they carefully set down each card after being read twice.
Suddenly, the boy stops sorting. "Hey Daddy, what's this card?"
The boy flips the card around so Yugi can see its shiny face. The card was none other than his most trusted monster, the Dark Magician.
"It's called the Dark Magician; it's my favorite Duel Monsters card."
The boy's face now held a gentle smile to it. Yugi could see almost a shadow of himself in his son. The boy had many of Yugi's traits, his gentleness, his selflessness, and his determination.
"Daddy, can I have this card?"
Realizing he was in his imagination again, Yugi processed what his son just even thinking about his answer, Yugi gave a smile and said…
"Of course Atem, you deserve it."
